Helen Warren, age 90, died Sunday, October 8, 2017 at the Mena Regional Health System. She was born on July 26, 1927 to John Larkin and Rosa Belle Eaton Stricklin in Loveland, Colorado.
The family moved to Oklahoma when she completed her education and became an active member in the three family businesses acting as the accountant and stenographer. She married Don Warren in 1953 and in 1960 they started their own business, Warren Saddlery & Western Store in Elk City, Oklahoma. They later operated the Quality Shop Store in Bentonville, Arkansas and in 1980 the D&D County Store in Maryville, Arkansas. Helen was an artist and gave art instruction in Oklahoma s and Arkansas. In 1990, she and Don moved to Mena and almost immediately become involved in the Mena Senior Center. She worked in several capacities, as desk register, M.C. Site Director and on the Board of Directors. Her heart and interests in the success of their program was the main focus of her later years. Helen was a Sunday school teacher for many years at the First Freewill Baptist Church in Mena. Helen was a wonderful person and will be missed by all who knew her.
Helen was preceded in death by parents; her husband, Don Warren; her son; her two brothers, Delbert and Clifton Stricklin; nephew, Johnny Stricklin and niece, Shelia Stricklin.
She is survived by her niece, Beth Stricklin of Shelton, Washington and a host of other friends and loved ones.
A memorial service is pending and will be announced by Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena.
