Edyth Lelia Garmon went to meet The Lord on August 28, 2018. “Miss Etta”, as she was known by her friends, was a resident of Mena Manor and recently celebrated her 107th birthday surrounded by family and friends.
Edyth was born on July 27, 1911 in Pine Ridge, Arkansas to Harvey and Ova Liles Gamble. She married Ecil Garmon in Cherry Hill, Arkansas on September 6, 1930 and remained married until his death in 1986. She and her husband moved to the Central Valley of California during the “dust bowl” era and returned to Polk County, Arkansas in the mid 1970’s to live out their remaining years.
“Miss Etta” enjoyed gardening and visiting with her friends and grandchildren. Friends and family will remember her “sassy and lively” personality.
During her long life, she was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two daughters, one granddaughter and one grandson.
She is survived by son: Bud Garmon and wife Vicki of Howe, Oklahoma
Daughter in love and friendship: Martha Lou “Moppy” Billingsley of Mena, Arkansas
Four grandchildren: Mike Liles of Merced, California, Jason Garmon of Bakersfield, California, Brooke Garmon of Bakersfield, California, and Jamie Plemons of San Diego, California
Nieces: Ollie Lou Borger of Gustine, California, Ollie Louise “Doodle” Williamson of Cherry Hill, Arkansas
Nephew: Jim Garmon and wife Sue of Fayetteville, Arkansas
Numerous great-great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held in the Beasley Wood Chapel on Thursday, August 30, 2018 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Graveside service will be held at Cherry Hill Cemetery in Cherry Hill, Arkansas on Friday, August 31,2018 at 10:00 a. m. with Pastor Jim Reed of Southside Baptist Church of Poteau, Oklahoma officiating. Services under the direction of the Beasley Wood Funeral Home of Mena.
