Lee Ashley Gandy Obituary

Lee Ashley Gandy, age 83 of Mena, Arkansas passed away Saturday, September 8, 2018 in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Lee was born in Anderson, Missouri on November 12, 1934 to the late Raleigh Walter Gandy and the late Myrtle Florence Mason Gandy. He was married to Linda Borders Gandy for 63 happy years. Lee was a self-employed machinist, who accepted difficult jobs and took pleasure in the challenge. He was an accomplished Snooker Enthusiast and enjoyed coon hunting and fly fishing with family and friends. He enjoyed motorcycle riding with Linda and held a patent for developing a Heel and Toe Shifter for motorcycles. Lee served as past president of Mena Youth Baseball League, and a union representative for the Brotherhood of Signalman of the KCS Railroad. He served many years as an Assistant Postmaster and a union representative for postal supervisors. While working as Assistant Postmaster he accomplished 60 hours while maintaining a 4.0 GPA at Henderson’s Mena branch. Lee was Chief Architect and Carpenter on the 49 year old Gandy House on Gandy Lane. He was a generous man offering assistance to those in need. Most of all he loved God and his family. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mena, where he served since 1955. Lee was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend to all who knew him.

He is survived by wife: Linda MeLee Gandy of Mena, Arkansas

Son: Brian Lee Gandy of Huntsville, Texas

Daughters: Dawn Renee Jackson and husband Alan of Cabot, Arkansas and Susan Elaine Tre`an-Saor of Culpeper, Virginia

Grandchildren: Neal Gandy of Huntsville, Texas, Nathan “Sweet Pea” Gandy of Arlington, Texas, Laura Warren of Lynnwood, Washington, Erinn Warren of Federal Way, Washington, Caleb Jackson of Beebe, Arkansas, and Abigail de Roos of Missionary Training Center, Missouri

Great-grandchildren: Matthew Taylor, Jacob Taylor, Evelyn Gandy, Naomi Gandy, Tailyn Coleman, Aubree Jackson and Sydney de Roos.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raleigh and Myrtle Gandy, twin sister, Rosa Wilfong and older sister, Hazel Conner.

Funeral service will be Friday, September 14, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Mena with Brother David McCord and Brother Russell Threet officiating. Interment will follow in the Pinecrest Memorial Park under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.

Family and friends visitation will be Thursday, September 13, 2018 at Beasley Wood Chapel from 5:00-7:00 p.m. 

Pallbearers will be Nathan Gandy, Neal Gandy, Caleb Jackson, Jason Wagner, Jeff Gilchrist, James Carnathan, Ryan de Roos and John Herring.

Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Powell, Weldon Curtis, Randy Carter and Richard Martin.
