Bruce Henry Dale Obituary

Bruce Henry Dale, age 83, of Oden, Arkansas passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at Rich Mountain Nursing Home in Mena, Arkansas. He was born on August 1, 1935 in Jackson, Kentucky to the late Isaac Dale and the late Laura Spencer Dale. He spent most of his life living in Michigan and Arkansas. Mr. Dale retired from Precision Auto in Pontiac, Michigan. He always worked hard and had a good work ethic and was a great family man. 

He is survived by sister: Dora Jane Whelpley of Goodrich, Michigan

Daughters: Vicki Gadd and husband David of Ola, Arkansas, Sandy Renshaw and husband Fred of Waterford, Michigan, Shiela Ehrsam and husband Ed of Fruitland Park, Florida, and Connie Goss and husband Spencer of Kalvera, Michigan

Sons: John Dale and Abigail Clemons of Oden, Arkansas, and Bruce Dale, Jr. and Doreena Joseph of Grayling , Michigan

Host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

James Philip Piearcy

August 31, 1939 - November 24, 2018

 

Philip Piearcy, age 79, of Mena, Arkansas, died Saturday, November 24, 2018 at his home. He was born on Thursday, August 31, 1939 to Philip Anderson and Elsie Keen Piearcy in Hugo, Oklahoma. 

Philip lived his life with strong Christian values and attended the Calvary Baptist Church in Mena. He served proudly in the United States Army. Philip worked hard on the pipeline and later became a truck driver. He owned and operated B&P Trucking out of Russellville and enjoyed driving his 1995 Black Peterbilt. Philip loved his children and adored his wife. In his free time, he liked to play Moon. Philip was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and a great friend who will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Jana Marshall; one brother, David Piearcy; and one sister, Cleta Rose.

Philip is survived by his loving wife, Beth Piearcy of Mena; one son, Neal Lovell of Madison, Alabama; two daughters, Dedra Espinoza of San Antonio, Texas, and Patti Wildbur of DeQueen; two brothers, Bob Piearcy of Mena, and Jackie Piearcy of Ola; two sisters, Vernie Jill Smith of Mena, and Geraldine Funderburk of Mena; thirteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at Calvary Baptist Church in Mena, Arkansas with Brother Andy Arnold and Brother David Austin officiating. Interment will follow in the Daniel Cemetery in Wickes, Arkansas. Visitation will be held at Calvary Baptist Church on Wednesday before the service at 10:00 A.M. 

Pallbearers are Carlos Espinoza, Eddie Oliver, Greg Norman, Todd Piearcy, Rick Espinoza, and Mike Harwood.

Honorary Pallbearers are Greg Smith, Mike Callahan, and Paul Piearcy.

Eddie Gene Martin

October 12, 1958 - November 22, 2018

 

Eddie Gene Martin, age 60, of Mena, Arkansas, died peacefully Thursday, November 22, 2018 at his home. He was born on Sunday, October 12, 1958 to Donald Gene and Margaret Martin in Carthage, Missouri.

Eddie worked for Michel's Pipeline, long time union worker out of Labor Local 534 and McGraw Construction. He was always a diligent hard worker. Eddie built a beautiful house for his wife, whom he loved deeply, to enjoy their retired years together. He enjoyed mowing his yard, playing on his tractor, hunting and fishing. Most of all, he loved his children and grandchildren and took great joy in every moment spent with them. Eddie was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and a great friend who will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Connie Martin; and one grandson, Logen Martin.

Eddie is survived by his wife Charlene Martin of Mena; one son and daughter in law, Barry Martin and Pam Nass of Winchester, Ohio; one daughter and son in law, Candace and Chad Ayers of Mason, Ohio; one brother, Chris Martin of Rogers, Arkansas; four grandchildren, Kylie Martin, Marissa Ayers, Chesten Martin, and Stephen Gibson; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday, November 30, 2018 at 6:00 P.M. at the Union Mission Church in Pine Ridge, Arkansas. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena, Arkansas.

Sybil Lou Shrum, age 80 of Mena, Arkansas, died, Sunday, November 25, 2018 at her home. She was born on Saturday, June 25, 1938 to Robert Lee and Vivian Perry Cottman in Mena, Arkansas. 

Sybil was a Godly woman of the Baptist faith. She owned and operated the Ozark Inn for twenty-two years and served on the Mena Police Department in the 1970s. Sybil especially loved her family and beloved dog, "Tiny". She enjoyed collecting Irises and raising Pekingese dogs. Sybil was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Karlton Parnell; one son in law, John Brown; one brother, Bobby Cottman; and one sister, Maggie Cottman. 

Sybil is survived by her husband, Loyd Shrum of Mena; one daughter, Karla Brown of Mena; two grandchildren, Chris Parnell of Yocana, and Curtis Parnell of Mena; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

A graveside service will be held Monday, November 26, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at the Concord Cemetery in Ink, Arkansas. Arrangements are entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena, Arkansas. No visitation is planned at this time.

Donald Ray Thomas Sr., age 85, of Mena, died Thursday, November 22, 2018 at his home. He was born on Tuesday, October 3, 1933 to Morris Sheppard and Bulah Lou McKeever in Board Camp, Arkansas. 

Donald was a hard working, honest Christian man. He proudly served in the United States Army. Caring for his animals on a daily basis was always at the top of his list and he enjoyed watching Nascar, his favorite driver being the late Dale Earnhardt Sr. Donald adored his wife and family and enjoyed every minute he could spend with them. Donald was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and a great friend who will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Susan Lawson and Rose Thomas and one brother, Junior Thomas. 

Donald is survived by his wife of 65 years, Beverly Thomas of Mena; three sons, Donald Thomas Jr. of Mena, Edward Thomas of Kingsville, Missouri, and Timothy Thomas of Sedalia, Missouri; two daughters, Angela Thomas of Jasper, Texas, and Karin Lidberg of Ft. Myers, Florida; two sisters, Gail Ferguson of Pineland, Texas, and Sharon Sloat of Jasper, Texas; seventeen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Bettye Carol Rodriguez, age 77 of Mena, Arkansas, died, Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at Rich Mountain Nursing and Rehab. She was born on Monday, April 4, 1941 to Hershal Everett and Edna Josephine Stone Rusher in Butterfield, Arkansas. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, David Rusher. 

Bettye is survived by her loving companion of 32 years, Butch Davis; one daughter, Tracy Richards of Fayetteville; four sisters, Catherine Crabtree of Thompson Falls, Montana, Sharon Nix of Malvern, Judith Mutter of Hot Springs, and Cheryl Poole of Hot Springs; one granddaughter, Summer Richards of Belton, Missouri; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena. Interment is to follow at 2:00 P.M. at the Cooper Cemetery in Malvern, Arkansas. Visitation will be Saturday morning before the service starting at 10:00 A.M. Arrangements are entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena, Arkansas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in her memory be made to "The Tree of Life", an organization funding healthcare career scholarships to local students. Donations can be made to the Mena Regional Support Foundation, P.O. Box 1526, Mena, AR 71953.

Dr. William Theodore (Ted) Shultz Obituary

Dr. William Theodore (Ted) Shultz age 89 of Mena, Arkansas passed away Sunday, November 18, 2018 in Hot Springs, Arkansas.


Dr. Shultz was born March 19, 1929 in Richland, Iowa to the late Fay Bond Shultz and the late Helen McLin Shultz. He was happily married to Ruth M. Shultz since August 12, 1951.


Ted graduated from the University of Iowa and earned his Medical Degree in June 1953. He went active in the United States Air Force and proudly served his country as a flight surgeon. These duties included being an advisor to General Robert S. Israel. He did his Medical residence from 1956-1959 in Des Moines, Iowa. He became a Board-Certified Radiologist.


He practiced 26 years in Marshalltown, and Eldora, Iowa, and at the Iowa Veterans Home.


From 1985 to 1990 he practiced at Mena Regional Health Systems. From 1990-1996 he practiced in Webster City, Iowa. 


Ted and his wife Ruth retired to Mena, in July 1996. He was a member of the RSNA, ACR, AMA, American Legion, and an Honorary member of Iowa Medical Society. He was also a member of Grace Bible Church.


He loved to read, enjoyed watching movies, hunting and fishing with family and friends. He enjoyed being outdoors, traveling and his dogs. Most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren and family. He was a loving and kind husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all who knew him.


He is survived by wife: Ruth M. Shultz of Mena, Arkansas

Funeral service will be Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at 2:30 p.m. at Grace Bible Church with Dr. Lamar Austin officiating. Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Park under the direction of the Beasley Wood Funeral Home of Mena.


Family and friends visitation will be Tuesday, November 20, 2018, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Beasley Wood.

Charles Edward Lagoy, age 59, of Cove, Arkansas, died Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at his home surrounded by family. He was born on Thursday, December 4, 1958 to Louis Elvorton and Betty Wilburn Lagoy in Helena, Arkansas.

Charles served in the United States Air Force stationed in Turkey as a security specialist. He believed in honesty, and taking care of your responsibilities. Charles worked as a welder and was incredibly proud to buy a home, a new car, and provide for his family. He liked to listen to Classic Rock and was an avid collector of cards, comic books, and all sorts of other memorabilia. In his free time, he enjoyed anything out in nature like riding four wheelers and fishing. He loved his family with all his heart and was proud of all of them. Charles was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and a great friend who will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bobby Lagoy, and one grandson Jacob Lagoy Jr.

Charles is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Sharon Lagoy of Cove; two sons, Jacob Lagoy Sr. and fiance Amanda Brown of Cove, and Jed Lagoy and fiance Stacey Wilburn; two daughters, Ali Shifflett of Hatfield, and Sheila Akers of Arkansas; one brother, Gary Lagoy of Camp Verdie, Arizona; one sister, Paula Lagoy of Cottonwood, Arizona; seventeen grandchildren; four great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Dorothy Dollarhyde, age 88, of Mena, Arkansas, died, Thursday, November 15, 2018 at the Rich Mountain Nursing and Rehab in Mena. She was born on Saturday, December 21, 1929 to William and Nancy Lee Ketcher Russell in Miami, Oklahoma. 

Dorothy loved her family and spending time with them. She was a homemaker and loved to sew for her family and cook. Some of her family's favorite dishes were her cornbread dressing at Thanksgiving and her chocolate gravy and hot biscuits in the morning. Dorothy loved going to church and was of the Pentecostal faith. Dorothy was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Roy Dollarhyde; five sons, Donald Dollarhyde, Mark Dollarhyde, Roy Dollarhyde Jr., Ross Dollarhyde, and Jody Dollarhyde; two daughters, Nancy lane and Rebecca Dollarhyde; and fourteen brothers and sisters which included five sets of twins, Jessie and Jasper, Paul and Pauline, Alice and Dallas, Pearl and Earl, Lee and Leona, as well as William, Gracie, Helen, and Maxine.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Matthew Dollarhyde of Alabama; her daughter, Michelle Rosson of Mena; twenty seven grandchildren, sixty two great grandchildren; twenty-four great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

A graveside service will be Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at the Elm Cemetery in Leach, Oklahoma under the direction of Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena. Visitation will be general.

Sodona Elieen Koch age 87, of Mena, Arkansas passed away Monday, November 12, 2018 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas.


Sodona was born on December 17, 11930 in Lawrenceville, Illinois to the late Marion McBride and Opal Brown McBride. She loved God and her family. Lois was a loving and kind mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all who knew her.

She is survived by sons: Douglas Howard Coppes of Wisconsin and Gary Redman of Louisiana

Grandchildren: Jeanette Martin, Kimberly Srinara, Ken Coppes, David Coppes and John Coppes

Great-grandchildren: Kailey Martin, Lily Coppes, Abby Coppes, Brandon Coppes, Justin Coppes and Jenna Coppes

She was preceded in death by her parents Marion and Opal McBride.

November 25, 1937 - November 14, 2018

 

Betty Jean Ward, age 80, of Mena, Arkansas, died, Wednesday, November 14, 2018, at the Mena Regional Health System. She was born on Thursday, November 25, 1937 to George Silas and Sarah Ella Atchley Weatherby in Mena, Arkansas. 

Betty loved her family and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was of the Baptist faith. Some of Betty’s hobbies included spending time working on genealogy and crocheting. She worked as an LPN at Rich Mountain Nursing and Rehab for fifteen years before retiring in 2000. Betty liked to listen to Gospel music and spend time with her beloved dog, Ozzy. She was a member of the Daughter's of the American Revolution. Betty was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Floyd Richard Ward and her brother Johnny Weatherby. 

Betty is survived by her five sons, Michael Ward, Gary Ward, Keith Ward, Jason Ward all of Mena and Brian Ward of Loogootee, Indiana; two daughters, Karen Ward of Mena and Ellen Thacker of County Line, Oklahoma; her sister, Edith McAllister of Fayetteville, Arkansas; eighteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchild; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be Monday, November 19, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena. Interment will follow in the Rocky Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-5 P.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena. Arrangements are entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena, Arkansas.

Lois Marie Cunningham Obituary

Lois Marie Cunningham, age 91, of Mena passed away Tuesday, November 13, 2018 in Mena, Arkansas. 

Lois was born on September 17, 1927 in Hugo, Oklahoma to the late Jim Woods and the late Mary Jane Young Woods. She was a loving and kind homemaker. Lois enjoyed many things in life such as bingo, sewing, quilting and working in her vegetable gardens. She was dedicated on going to church and her Bible Study group. Lois was voted at Peachtree as the Kindest Woman and also taught a sewing class at Peachtree. She loved being out in and viewing the beautiful nature. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, sister, and friend to all who knew her. Lois will be missed by all. 

She is survived by son: Barry Cunningham of Zafra, Oklahoma

Son-in-law: Bill Richmond of Mena, Arkansas

Daughters: Charlene Morris and husband David of Norman, Oklahoma, Linda Weinheimer and husband Bob of Maricopa, Arizona, and Jane Owens and husband Frankie of Mena, Arkansas

Robert Albert Genzel Jr., age 76, of Vandervoort, Arkansas, died Thursday, November 8, 2018 at his home. He was born on Monday, March 9, 1942 to Robert Albert Genzel Sr. and Porter Reis "Penny" Nelms Genzel in Dallas, Texas.

Robert, also affectionately known as "Dad, Daddy, Bob, Bobby, Papa and Willy Bob" by his closest family and friends was a loving husband to our dear mom Ann, father of 4, grandfather of 12, brother, uncle and a great friend who will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

Our Dad has left us a legacy of what it means to be a husband and loving caretaker to our Mom. What it means to be a daddy and papa to his kids and his grandkids. The importance of family traditions, laughter & making memories that will not only last our lifetime but will be passed on from generation to generation.

He was a hardworking man of MANY talents and we loved him dearly. Dad was a builder, drummer, mechanic, plumber, electrician, carpenter, gardener, cook, hunter, avid fisherman, expert story teller and professional smart ass. We could go on and on. But mostly, he was our Daddy and we will miss his advice, voice and laughter every day. We will forever have a hole in our hearts that we cannot fix without our faith in the Lord, as we know with Gods' grace and mercy we will see our beloved Dad again one day.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, and one brother and sister in law, Tom and Nadine Genzel.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Anna Genzel of Vandervoort; one son and daughter-in-law, Robby A Genzel III and wife Jamie of Anna,Texas. Three daughters: Tammy Genzel Williamson of Prosper, Texas; Christy Genzel Williamson of Celina, Texas; and Jennifer Genzel of Frisco, Texas. Two brothers and sisters-in-law: Timothy Allen and Linda Genzel of Wickes, Arkansas; Danny and Debra Genzel of Cove, Arkansas. Three sisters and brothers-in-law: Janet and Murl Elliston of Fort Worth, Texas; Kathy Baker of Edmond, Oklahoma; Cecilia and James Martin of Edmond Oklahoma. Twelve grandchildren: Tori Deleon; Cody Genzel; Tristan Genzel; Wyatt Williamson; Brody Genzel; Parker Genzel; Hope Williamson; Grace Williamson; Halle Williamson; Jake Williamson; Luke Genzel; and Ella Genzel. Many nieces, nephews, a host of other relatives, and friends.

James M. L. "Tinker" Combs Obituary

James M. L. “Tinker” Combs, age 79, of Watson, Oklahoma passed away Saturday, November 10, 2018 at his home.

He was born August 28, 1939 to the late James Toga Combs and the late Tressie Mae Turner Combs. He was united in marriage to JoAnn Romine. Tinker was a self-employed business man. He loved hunting and fishing and the outdoors in general. He enjoyed watching western movies, reading western books, and took great enjoyment in boxing. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend.

Graveside service will be Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Cove, Arkansas with Brother Ronnie Tilley officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.

Gay Marshall Obituary

Gay Marshall, age 65, of Mena, Arkansas passed away Friday, November 9, 2018 in Mena.

She was born January 16, 1953 to the late Hollis Marshall and the late Mary Willhite Marshall. She was a dispatcher for the Polk County Sherriff’s Office for 20 years. Gay enjoyed her dogs. Mostly, she loved her children and grandchildren. Gay was a people person and never met a stranger. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She will be dearly missed.

Survivors are daughters: Teresa Cochran of Pickerington, Ohio, and Mary Standerfer and husband Tracy of Cove, Arkansas

 

Grandchildren: Madison Gilbert of Dayton, Ohio, Macy Gilbert of Pickerington, Ohio, and Halie Standerfer of Cove, Arkansas

Brothers: Larry Marshall of Arizona, Thomas Marshall and wife Kathy of Mena, Arkansas, Charles Marshall and wife Joan of Mena, Arkansas

Sisters: Kathy Bailey and husband David of Westville, Oklahoma, and Carol Sickles and husband Clay of Mena, Arkansas

Numerous other family and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hollis and Mary Marshall.

Graveside service will be Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Pine Ridge Cemetery in Pine Ridge, Arkansas with Brother Bryan Richardson officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.

Beverly Ann Bolton Obituary

Beverly Ann Bolton age 68 of Mena, Arkansas passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at her home surrounded by family and loved ones.


Beverly loved her family tremendously. She also loved nature and animals. Her first love was the Lord. She was so very talented and never met a stranger.


Our family would like to extend our love to Ouachita Hospice Family, who took care of our whole family with genuine love. Kelly Westbrook your friendship to our Mama will never be forgotten.


Beverly was preceded in death by brother B. David Flora, and grandsons Michael and Benjamin Smith.


She is survived by mother: Mary Harp

Edna Talley Sloan Obituary

Edna Talley Sloan age 96 of Mena, Arkansas passed away Monday, November 5,2018 in Mena.


Edna was born on March 8, 1922 in Eva, Alabama to the late Thomas Jefferson Talley and the late Alice Williams Talley. She was married to the late Kenneth M. Sloan for 67 years. Edna worked for the United States Postal service until she retired. She loved to study and teach the Bible. Edna was a member of the Dallas Avenue Baptist Church. Edna enjoyed gardening, painting and sewing. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grand mother, and friend to all who knew her. She will be dearly missed.


She is survived by son: Douglas Sloan and wife Brenda of Mena, Arkansas


Daughter-in-law: Donna Sloan wife of the late Phillip Talley Sloan of Mena, Arkansas


Grandchildren: Alessa Sloan of Davison, Michigan, Amanda Baker and husband Dewayne of Mena, Arkansas, Chase Night and wife Alexa of Mena, Arkansas, Nathan Sloan and fiance’ Jessica of Los Angeles, California, and Nicole Sloan of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma


8 Great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren.


She is preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Alice Talley, husband, Kenneth M. Sloan, son Phillip Sloan, sisters Odell Wallace and Judy Thieme.


Funeral service will be Saturday, November 10, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at Dallas Avenue Baptist Church with Brother Justin Leonard officiating. Interment will follow in the Pinecrest Memorial Park under the direction of the Beasley Wood Funeral Home of Mena.


Family and friends visitation will be Friday, November 9, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Beasley Wood.


In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Gideons in her name.


Pallbearers will be Dewayne Baker, Bobby Daniel, A.L. Hadaway, Joe Head, Dewayne Meador and Kenny Williams.

Inez Virginia Herndon Obituary

Inez Virginia Herndon of Mena, Arkansas passed away Saturday, November 3, 2018 peacefully in the home of her granddaughter Cynthia Crider and her husband Rodger in Potter, Arkansas surrounded by her family at age 87. 

Inez was born May 1st, 1931 in Sylvester, Georgia. She worked as a nurse’s aide and a foster grandparent of many years. She enjoyed casinos, bluegrass music, bingo, old westerns, Matlock, her dogs and her family and friends. Inez lived happily with her husband Dan in Wright City, Oklahoma. She traveled, sang, camped, fished, went to church singings and enjoyed her life to the fullest. Inez was a loving mother sister, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother and friend.

Inez is survived by daughters: Barbara McLellan and husband Glenn of Potter, Arkansas, Virginia Cooke of Mena, Arkansas, Connie Verdic of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Marie Carroll and husband Dewey of Hatfield, Arkansas, and Caroline Reed and husband Ed of Arizona

Son: Roger and wife Dewanna of Shreveport, Louisiana

Brothers: Charles and wife Nancy of Cortland, Ohio and Bill and wife Paula of Poplar, Mississippi

Sisters: Margie and husband Guy of Booneville, Arkansas, Jeanette Allen of Mena, Arkansas, and Mary Whisenhunt of Mena, Arkansas.

She had 7 children, 29 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, 16 great- great grandchildren, and a host of cousins and other family members. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Daniel Herndon, mother Nora Henderson, father Robert Henderson, brother Frank and wife Elaine Henderson, son Wayne Barnes, Grandsons Patrick Reed and Corrie Mize, brother in law Edward Allen, Elmer Whisenhunt, and nephew Robert Allen.

Pallbearers are grandsons Alex Crider, Tyler Crider, Fisher Greyson, Buzzie Grayson, Aaron McLellan and Jason Neer, and Granddaughter Renee Barnes.

Memorial service will be Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Crossing Community Center with Brother Victor Rowell officiating. Services are arranged under the direction of the Beasley Wood Funeral Home of Mena.

John Nicklos Marshall

November 2, 1930 - November 3, 2018

 

John Nicklos Marshall, age 88, of Pine Ridge, died Saturday, November 3, 2018 at John L. McClellan Memorial Veterans Hospital in Little Rock. He was born on Sunday, November 2, 1930 to Herman Paul and Irene Risenhoover Marshall in Pine Ridge, Arkansas.

John served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and was honorable discharged in December 1953. After the service, John began a 30 year career working at Hampton Bakery. He loved going fishing on the Ouachita River and setting trout lines. John in his younger years enjoyed playing basketball and as the years went by he started watching and going to games. John loved the Lord and was a member of the Oden Baptist Church. John was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle friend who will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his girl friend, Lorene Beck; two brothers, D.L. Marshall and Hollis Marshall. 

John is survived by his one son and daughter in law, Michael and Margarette Marshall of Pine Ridge; his brothers, Billy Bob Marshall of El Dorado, Arkansas and Louis Marshall of Pine Ridge; two sisters, Gennell Tutt of Point, Texas and Herma Jean Rayle of Cameron, West Virginia; four grandchildren, Jennifer Cronin of Fort Smith, Joshua Peters of Fort Smith, Ericka Vassar of Lavaca, and Tiffany Marshall of Jacksonville, Arkansas; five great grandchildren, Anthony Ward, Brian Ward, Ivy Cronin, Alex Cronin and Kenzi Vassar; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Pine Ridge Cemetery. Visitation will be general before the service.

Sandra Kay Hill, age 78, of Mena, Arkansas, died, Wednesday, October 31, 2018, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Monday, February 19, 1940 to Thomas Raymond and Helen Louise Dyer in Saginaw, Michigan. 

Sandra was a member of the Church of Christ of Latter-Day Saints and spent most of her life as a waitress and homemaker. Sandra enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and her dogs most of all. For over forty years, Sandra has enjoyed taking care of her rose bush in front of her house that her loving husband, Richard plant so many years ago. She and her husband owned and operated Hill Arkansas Kennel, Home of the Chow Chows. Sandra was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard D. Hill; two sons, Calvin Hill, and Timothy Rivett; two daughters, Christine Harmon, and Amanda Rivett; and one sister, Florence Bremmer. 

Sandra is survived by her sons, Jeffrey Hill of Hatfield, Robert Hill of Mena; her daughters, Tammy Watson of Mena, Noreen Cameron of Kempner, Texas, Loreen Ewing of Fort Smith, Corenna Fall of Mena; one brother, Carl Smith of Lake City, Michigan; one sister, Bonnie Blake of Saginaw, Michigan; twenty two grandchildren; twenty one great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Lamar Austin officiating. Interment will follow at the Gann Cemetery in Potter under the direction of Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena. Visitation will be general.

Pallbearers will be Cody Christensen, Rory Christensen, Rocky Christensen, Allen Williams, Greg James, and Edward Ericson, III.
