Verna Jamie Wood Marschall Kirby, age 66, of Mena, Arkansas passed away Saturday, December 29, 2018 at her home.

She was born March 7, 1952 in Fort Ord, California to the late James Wood and the late Lois Hook Wood. She was united in marriage to Aaron Douglas Kirby, Jr. Mrs. Kirby was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be dearly missed.

Sons: Doug Lewis Marschall and wife Linda of Mena, Arkansas, Earl Edward James Kirby and wife Heather of Mena, Arkansas, and Jamie White and wife Lorene of Mena, Arkansas

Sister: Dora Fay Wood Venable of Mena, Arkansas and Becki Lane of Shreveport, Louisiana

Grandchildren: Nick, D.J., Tiffany and Christian Marschall of Mena, Arkansas, Reeselyn Manasco of Mena, Arkansas, Alissa, Haley and Michael White of Mena, Arkansas, Cody and Chelsee Shores of Mena, Arkansas

Great Grandchildren: Kylee Marschall and Jackie Beckwith

Nieces: Jeanetta Lynn Venable Cunningham and husband Phil of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Dorothy Jean Venable of Mena, Arkansas

She was preceded in death by her father James Earnest Wood AKA Freeman Andrew Blackwood, mother Lois Marie Hook Rice Wood, sister Lois Ruth Wood Thomason Zepeda, brother Harry T. Rice, mother-in-law Billie Mae Tolbert Sinclair Goyne Kirby, Father-in-law Aaron Douglas Kirby, Sr., Great Nephew Dustin James Blake, Nephew James Carrol Venable and brother-in-law Roger Carrol Venable.

Mrs. Kirby will be sent for cremation under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.

Ralph Joseph Santopietro, age 77 of Mena, Arkansas passed away Thursday, December 27, 2018 in Fort Smith, Arkansas.


Ralph was born December 4, 1941 in Utica, New York to the late Edmund Santopietro and the late Cavell Santopietro. He was married to Daina Hall Santopietro and was a teacher, owned a boat rental business, and worked in the computer business in his early life. He enjoyed many things in life especially golf, skiing, and playing the game of high-lie. Ralph enjoyed doing business on E-Bay. Most of all he loved his family. Ralph was a loving husband, father, brother and friend to all who knew him. He will be dearly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents.


Funeral service will be Monday, December 31, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Beasley Wood Chapel. Following the funeral service, Mr. Santopietro will be sent for cremation.

July 20, 1943 - December 25, 2018

 

Benjamin Glenn Kail, age 75, of Mena, Arkansas died Tuesday, December 25, 2018 in Mena. He was born on Tuesday, July 20, 1943 to Theo and Opalene Murphey Kail in Little Rock, Arkansas. 

Ben was a Godly man who lived by his Christian values. 1st Corinthians Chapter 13 played a large part in guiding his life, and he believed that love is the commandment. He attended the Church of Christ and was a church elder for ten years in Hawley, Texas. Ben also served as President of the Victoria Christian School Board. He worked as an investment advisor for forty years before retiring. Ben loved to hunt, fish, and go camping. God and family were always most important to him and he always strived to make them proud. Benjamin was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and a great friend and will be missed by all who knew him. 

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Ben is survived by his loving wife, Jay Dene Kail of Mena; two daughters and sons in law, Lisa and Lawrence Selenski of Wharton, Texas, and Shawna and Thayne Williams of Mena; one brother, David Kail of Springfield, Missouri; two sisters, Janet Kail of Jacksonville, Arkansas, and Karen Bedor of Austin, Texas; several grandchildren, Lauren and Caleb Hicks of Lansing, Mississippi, Lianna Selenski of Wharton, Texas, Mason Williams of Searcy, Arkansas, Alexa and Zae Clemens of Fayetteville, and Kaylee Williams of Fayetteville; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 29, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena, Arkansas. Cremation services are entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena, Arkansas.

Eric Martin Clubb, age 67, of Mena, Arkansas died Sunday, December 23, 2018 in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He was born on Tuesday, August 14, 1951 to William Martin and Katherine Willis Clubb in St. Louis, Missouri. 

Eric was a Godly man who lived by his Christian values. He always enjoyed fellowship with others. Eric worked as a security guard for 30 years at a large subdivision in French Village, Missouri named Goose Creek. He also owned and operated Candlelight Tavern in Dog Patch, Oklahoma with Mottie for 20 years. Eric was always filled with laughter and loved wading in the river and fishing. He was a proud member of the NRA. Eric was a loving brother, cousin, and a great friend and will be missed by all who knew him. 

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Eric is survived by his cousins, Jerome Willis and wife Rose of Festus, Missouri, and Beverly Clark of Cape Geraldo, Missouri; several good friends, Roger and Janet VanDeest of Hatfield, Doug Wallace of Birmingham, Alabama, Tom Wallace of Durango, Colorado, Chase VanDeest of Hot Springs, and Aaron Kennedy and wife Anna of Farmington, Missouri; and half-sister, Billie Clubb Danfield of New Orleans, Louisiana; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Jeffery Charlie Lane Obituary

Jeffery Charlie Lane passed away on Sunday. December 23, 2018 at the age of 59 at Mena Regional Health System. He was born on Saturday, June 27, 1959 in Mena, Arkansas to Clifford David Lane and the late Emma Ruby Bissell Lane.


He owned and operated a logging business in Mena for several years and was an excellent mechanic. He enjoyed working outdoors and loved to fish, hunt, and grill for family and friends. He shared that love with his children. Jeff enjoyed spending time with his Dad, children, and grandchildren. Jeff was a member of the Baptist church.


Jeffery is survived by daughter: Kathy Renee Harper and husband Michael of Mena, Arkansas


Son: Russell Charlie Lane and wife Nikita of Mena, Arkansas

He was preceded in death by his mother, Emma Ruby Lane, brother Justin Lane, his paternal grandparents, Charlie and Vivian Lane, and maternal grandparents, Herbert Bissell and Bertha Turner Bissell.


He left us too soon, but our hearts will forever cherish his memories.

Visitation will be held at the Beasley Wood Chapel on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 from 5:00-7:00 p.m.

Geraldine Frances Carter, age 72, of Mena, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, December 20, 2018 in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

She was born November 22, 1946 in California to the late Jack Carter and the late Betty Lucille Snotty. Mr. Carter passed before she knew him, and her step-father Mr. Dewey Hamm, raised her as his own. She was a homemaker and loved to do ceramics. You could find her playing her favorite game, bingo with her friends in the nursing home, and loved her trips to the Senior Center. She was a loving sister and friend and will be missed.

Betty Sue Ryals Sunderman age 78 of Mena, Arkansas passed away Thursday, December 20, 2018 in Mena, Arkansas.

Betty was born on June 01, 1940 in Highland, Arkansas to the late William Fleming Ryals and the late Maude L. Fryar Ryals. She was married for 61 years to Henry “H.G.” Sunderman. Betty worked for many years as a law office secretary. She also appreciated arts and crafts of all kinds. Betty enjoyed traveling with family and friends. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, sister-in-law and friend to all who knew her.

Charlene Elizabeth Golkhajeh, age 4 of Mena, Arkansas, died, Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at home. She was born on Friday, April 18, 2014 to Benjamin Mehrob and Michelle Hill Golkhajeh in Mena, Arkansas.

Charlene liked to read her favorite books, Dumbo and Beauty and the Beast, as well as make up her own creative stories. She loved her cat, Kitylee, and playing with insects. Charlene enjoyed showing her Papa the world on walks together and really liked to play in mud puddles and on the swing. Her favorite candy was chewy sprees and she could never eat enough of them. Charlene was a loving daughter, sister, granddaughter and niece and will be missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her sister, MaryElla LeAnn Golkhajeh.

Shelba Jean Bates McMellon, age 78, of Mena, Arkansas, died, Saturday, December 15, 2018 at the Rich Mountain Nursing and Rehab in Mena. She was born on Sunday, September 29, 1940 to Walter LaFayette and Cora Nellie Standridge Bates in Big Fork, Arkansas.

Shell was a person that lived, loved and laughed and always was genuine person that knew who she was and said what was on her mind. She loved her family; her children and her grandchildren with all her heart. Shell enjoyed reading and writing poetry, letters to friends and family and sending cards to special people in her life. Shell, with her husband, Jerry owned and operated McMellon Ready Mix in the early 80's. Shell was a Christian and attended Dallas Avenue Baptist Church and The Crossing. Shell was a loving, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her former husband, Jerry McMellon; one brother, Lake Bates and two sisters, Georgia Holman and Ruby Edwards.

Shell is survived by her two sons and daughters in law, Tim and Melinda McMellon of Mena and Steve and Debbie McMellon of Mena; her daughter and son in law, Susan and Victor Rowell of Mena; three sisters, Edna King of Eugene, Oregon, Alice Keener of Mena and Connie Bates of Mena; eleven grandchildren; twenty eight great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Robbie L. Blodgett Blair age 76, of Mena, Arkansas passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2018 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas.


Robbie was born on September 23, 1942 in Tucumcari, New Mexico to the late Harold Blodgett and the late Opal Buttrill Blodgett. She was a school teacher in Acorn and Mena for many years. Robbie enjoyed keeping busy with knitting, crocheting, and socializing. She also treasured being outdoors, fishing, and traveling. Robbie was very energetic with living life to the fullest. She was active in her church and a member of the Red Hat Hotties club. Above all she loved God and her family. Robbie was a loving and kind mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all who knew her. She will be dearly missed by all.


She is survived by sons: Harl Blair and wife Teri of Ft. Worth, Texas, Almon Blair and wife Lana of Alma, Arkansas, and Donnie Blair and wife Theresa of Irving, Texas

Billy O. Beam

February 3, 1936 - December 10, 2018

 

Billy O. Beam, age 82, of Mena, died Monday, December 10, 2018 at Rich Mountain Nursing and Rehab in Mena. He was born on Monday, February 3, 1936 to Orva J. and Fannie Elizabeth Beam in Mount Ida, Arkansas.

Bill was a certified public accountant in Missouri, Arkansas, and Oklahoma for over 50 years and served as a member of the Peer Review Board of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Peer Review Committee, and Chair of the Arkansas Society of Certified Public Accountants and various other positions of the ASCPA. In his free time, Bill enjoyed hunting deer at his cabin in Washington County near Devil's Den State Park. He spent much of the fall hunting season there communing with nature. Bill was a father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joyce Beam; one sister, Charlene Irwin; and one brother, John Beam.

Bill is survived by one son and daughter in law, Randy and Cynthia Martin of Mena; two daughters and sons in laws, Janna and Christian Cochran of Kansas City, Missouri, and Jennifer and Brett Owenby of Elk, Washington; one sister, Pauline Gill of Yakima, Washington; five grandchildren, Quinn Cochran of Chicago, Illinois, Reece Cochran of Kansas City, Missouri, T.J. Shirley Maurine Baker

February 6, 1941 - December 8, 2018

 

Shirley Maurine Baker, age 77, of Mena, Arkansas died Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Peachtree Mena Assisted Living. She was born on Thursday, February 6, 1941 to Hugh and Eleanor Cameron Edwards in Nunley, Arkansas. 

Shirley moved to Oklahoma in early childhood and as a young woman, moved to Houston, Texas, where she met and married her husband, Rex Baker. Several years later, they moved to Longview, Washington, where they lived for 35 years before retiring and eventually moving to Mena in 2003. She and her husband were married just under 55 years before he passed in January 2015. Shirley was a kind and generous woman. She was a lifetime Christian and Baptist who loved God and her family. She enjoyed spending time with her family and was happiest when her house was full of family members. Shirley loved music, especially Gospel, and could often be heard humming or softly singing around the house. Her other loves were gardening, bingo at the American Legion, quilting, and serving food at 9th Street Ministries with the First United Methodist Church group. She had made several quilts for family members and had won ribbons at the Ouachita Quilt Shows. Shirley was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and a great friend and will be missed by all who knew her. 

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rex Dennard Baker; her step-father, Clinton Orbie Coverdill; one son, Tony Morris; and two brothers, James Edwards and Gerald Edwards.

Shirley is survived by one son and daughter in law, Rex and Michelle Baker of Stafford, Virginia; two daughters and sons in law, Sandra and Mark Wiggins of Mena, and Mary and Michael Meier of Mena; one sister, Davona Caldwell of Eufaula, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Amber Montecchie of Boise, Idaho, Krystal Cavelli of Mena, David Meier of Newport News, Virginia, Amanda Wiggins of Mena, Cameron Baker of Auburn, Alabama, and Kelsey Wiggins of Tulsa, Oklahoma; two great grandchildren, Tiffiny Cavelli of Mena, and Natalie Cavelli of Mena; many half-siblings, cousins, nieces, and nephews in Arkansas, Oklahoma, and nationwide.

A small, private memorial service for family and friends is planned for late January. Shirley will be interred at Nunley Cemetery, alongside her husband. Cremation services are entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena, Arkansas.

Bobby Eugene Varnell, age 93, of Mena, Arkansas, died Tuesday, December 5, 2018 in Beebe, Arkansas. He was born on Thursday, July 9, 1925 to James and Ida Mae Mosley Varnell in Brightwater, Arkansas. 

Bobby served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and was honorably discharged. Bobby loved his family and spending time with them. He attended and was a member of the Bible Believer's Baptist Church in Mena and served as a deacon for many years. Bobby enjoyed the outdoors and all it had to offer; hunting, fishing and raising a garden. A few years ago he raised a 110 pound watermelon from his garden. Bobby also was a heavy equipment mechanic and owned and operated Mechanic Will Travel. Bobby was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Dale Varnell, Pearce Varnell, Robert Varnell and Everett, Varnell and two sisters, Effa Mae Blaylock and Mary Jo Foster. 

Bobby is survived by his wife of 70 years, Melva Varnell of Mena; one daughter, Beverly Varnell of San Diego, California; one grandson and wife, Namid and Lisa Varnell of Beebe, Arkansas; four great grandchildren, Ethan Varnell, Zack Varnell, Sabrina Varnell and Jessica Varnell all of Beebe; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Russell Jerry Husted, age 76, of Mena, Arkansas, died Tuesday, December 4, 2018 in Hot Spring. He was born on Sunday, January 4, 1942 to Glen Slyvenus and Florence Lillian Studebaker in Alma, Michigan. 

Russell lived his life serving the Lord, his family and others. Russell began preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ when he was 19 years old. He was very active in prison ministries and was the pastor of Feed my Sheep Ministries since 1991; making sure the hungry was fed both physically and spiritually. He loved seeing people come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. Russell loved his family and spending time with his wife and children, but especially his grandchildren. Russell was a Certified Public Accountant and worked many years for Saudi Aramco oil Company for many years. Russell was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and a great friend who will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Russell is survived by his wife, Opal Husted of Mena; five sons and daughters in law, Russell and Rachel Husted of Yelm, Washington, Randy and Theresa Webster of Yelm, Washington, Delbert and Elainey Husted of Huffman, Texas, Terry and Sue Dittmann of Lavaca, Arkansas and Michael and Kristy Husted of Mena; one daughter and son in law, Staci and Jimmy Hosford of Houston, Texas; one brother and sister in law, Leroy and Jennie Husted of Port Richie, Florida; brothers in law, Clyde and Sue Palmer of Valliant, Oklahoma and Jay Palmer of Mena; sisters in law, Carol Husted of Shepherd, Michigan, Wanda Campbell of Valliant, Oklahoma and Cathy Dyer of Ashdown, Arkansas; eighteen grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 9, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena with Pastor Cecil Willis and Delbert Husted officiating. Interment will follow in the Concord Cemetery in Ink under the direction of Bowser Family Funeral Home. No Visitation is planned. 

Pallbearers are Delbert Husted, Russell Husted, Michael Husted, Randy Webster, Terry Dittman, Jacob Dittmann, Staci Hosford and Jimmy Hosford.

Honorary pallbearer will be Chris Coville.

Helen M. Matthews Obituary

Helen M. Matthews age 90, of Mena, Arkansas passed away Saturday, December 1, 2018 in Texas. 

She was born on September 11, 1928 in Waldron, Arkansas to the late John Ponder and the late Frances Godder. Helen worked as an assembler for 3M Computers. She enjoyed life in her own way, doing things she loved. Most of all she was very loving and a head strong individual. She was an adoring and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother.

She is survived sons: Ovid Morphew of Grand Prairie, Texas and Roger Morphew of Shady, Arkansas

Several grandchildren and several great grandchildren and two great-great- grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, a husband, four sons, one daughter, and two grandsons.

Memorial service will be Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Shady. Interment will be at a later date in Pleasants Hills Cemetery in Bryants Mills, Texas. Arrangements were made under the direction of the Beasley Wood Funeral Home of Mena.

Lowell Gene Rose, age 78, of Mena, Arkansas, died Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at the Mena Manor Skilled Nursing and Rehab. He was born on Tuesday, January 9, 1940 to Robert Lawrence and Willie Elise Sullivan Rose in Grannis, Arkansas. 

Gene as he was known by, loved three things in life; his Lord Jesus Christ, his family and his job. He loved his church and attended Union Mission Pentecostal Church of God in Mena and also served as a Gideon. Gene loved his family and spending time with his wife, children and grandchild. Gene was a wheeler and dealer. He was a salesman all his life and loved to sell you something even though you might not need it. He owed several different businesses in Mena. Gene served in the United States National Guard for 6 years. Gene also enjoyed hunting and listening to old time Gospel music. Gene was a husband, father, grandfather, brother and a great friend who will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Glen Rose, Kenneth Pose, Doyle Rose and Gerald Rose. 

Gene is survived by his loving wife, Annell Rose of Mena, two sons, Bobby Rose of Houston, Texas and Jamie Rose of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one brother, Alton Rose of Athens, Texas; one grandson, Carrington Rose of Mena, Arkansas; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at Union Mission Pentecostal Church of God in Mena with Brother Bill Dunahoo and Pastor Nathan Sherer officiating. Shirley Blanche Clark Obituary

Shirley Blanche Clark age 90, of Mena, Arkansas passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2018 in Mena.


Shirley was born on December 24, 1927 in Plunkettville, Oklahoma to the late Riley Cinnamon Dunagan and the late Lillie Pearl Gilbert Dunagan. She was the last of 9 children. Shirley was married to the love of life for 54 years, Billy Dick Clark until his passing. She worked in the daycare business taking care of precious children for 40 years. She was a charter member of the First Baptist Church and dearly loved her sunday school class and church. Shirley had many hobbies, including reading, crocheting, gardening and taking care of her beautiful flower garden. Most of all she was a wonderful cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family. Above all she loved God and her family. She was a loving and faithful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, and friend to all who knew her. Shirley will be dearly missed by everyone.


She is survived by sons: Richard Clark and wife Teresa of Mena, Arkansas, and Clinton Clark and wife Barbara of Fort Smith, Arkansas


Daughter: Judy Hubbard and husband Tommy of Mena, Arkansas


15 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren,  and 12 great-great- grandchildren

She was preceded in death by her parents Riley and Lillie Dunagan,husband, Billy Dick Clark, a great granddaughter, Kalli Musick, brothers, Clyde Dunagan, Russell Dunagan, Rue Dunagan, Ray Dunagan, and Jack Dunagan, sisters, Vera Davis, Treva Patton, and Ruby Burgess.


Funeral service will be Friday, December 7, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Beasley Wood Chapel with Brother Russell Threet officiating. Interment will follow in at Pinecrest Memorial Park under the direction of the Beasley Wood Funeral Home of Mena.


Pallbearers will be Steven Hubbard, Chris Clark, David Lehmann, Billy Clark, Kyle Rowe, and Anthony Clark.


Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of First Baptist Church.

Dow Cooper Anderson Jr., age 67, of Mena, Arkansas, passed away, Saturday, December 1, 2018 surrounded by family and loved ones.

A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at Board Camp Baptist Church located at 107 Polk Road 63, Mena, Arkansas 71953. Pastor Brett Lee and Ron Tilley will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Board Camp Baptist Church Building Fund. Arrangements are entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena. 

Dow was born November 14, 1951, in Port Arthur, Texas to Dow Cooper Sr. and Audrey May Anderson. He entered military service with the U.S. Army in April 1972 where he served with distinction in the 82nd Airborne Division during the Vietnam Conflict before returning to civilian life. Dow spent the next 22 years of his professional career in Industrial Construction, where he was able to leave his mark on manufacturing projects that span from coast to coast. He had a sincere passion for travel that could only be surpassed by his love for family gatherings and spending time with his 27 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Dow is survived by his wife, Debra Ann Anderson of Mena, AR; his siblings, Donna Tyndall of Woodville, TX, William Anderson and his wife, Deanna of Bismark, AR and Onna Tucker of Mena, AR; his children, Jamie Anderson and his wife, Tina of Mena, AR, David Anderson and his wife, Summar of Hatfield, AR, Amy Campbell of Berryville, AR, Chris Anderson and his wife, Jessica of Bentonville, AR, Josh Anderson and his wife, Jessica of Mena, AR, Lt Col Tom Hayes and his wife, Chelsea of Buckeye, AZ, and Courtney Yawn and her husband, Boogie of Dayton, TX; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Johnny N. Harms, age 91, of Ink, Arkansas, died Saturday, December 1, 2018 at the Mena Manor Skilled Nursing and Rehab. He was born on Monday, October 24, 1927 to Isaac and Emma Kathrine Neufield in Ulysses, Kansas. 

Johnny lived his life serving the Lord, his family and others. He was an active member of the Cherry Hill Methodist Church. Johnny served his country for 26 years in the United States Army and the United States Air Force. He began his career at the end of World War II; then served during the Korean Conflict and into the Vietnam Era and retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant. During this time for 17 years, he taught survival combat to all air crew members which he truly loved. After serving he returned home to raise his family and be a father to them. He loved his family greatly. Johnny in his spare time enjoyed woodworking, tanning hides and lapidary. Johnny was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and a great friend who will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lorraine Harms; three brothers, David Harms, Isaac Harms Jr., and Alvin Harms and four sisters, Edna Kliwer, Louella Schultz, Ruby Schmidt and Anna Mae Gertzen.

Johnny is survived by his son, Johnny Harms Jr., of El Dorado, Arkansas; his daughter, Jacy Johnson of Ink; one brother, Clarence Harms of Pennsylvania; one sister, Bernice Given of Colorado, Springs, Colorado; six grandchildren, David Murphy, Sharla Sassman, Jeremiah Harms, Jerusalem Harms, Joshua Butterworth and Justin Johnson; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at Concord Cemetery in Ink with Pastor Debbie Head officiating. Visitation will be Friday, December 7, 2018 from 6-8 P.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena.

Martha Fern Davis, age 80, of Mena, Arkansas, died, Saturday, December 1, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Monday, April 11, 1938 to Fred and Rushe Miner Anthony in Boles, Arkansas.

Martha loved her family and spending time with them. She enjoyed riding horses, working in her flower gardens and playing Bluegrass Music with her guitar. Martha worked as a beautician for over 40 years and owned and operated Marty's Guys and Dolls Hair Salon. Martha was of the Pentecostal faith. Martha was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Billy Davis; her son, Robert Davis and several brothers and sisters. 

Martha is survived by her daughter, Teresa Davis of Mena; her sister, Nancy Langford of Fort Smith; her two grandchildren and their spouses, Chance and Shayla Davis of Mena, and Amanda and Marcus Warren of Mena; three great grandchildren; Kaitlyn, Alyssa and Myah Warren all of Mena; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Orvis Lamar Martin, age 68, of Hatfield, died Saturday, December 1, 2018 at his home. He was born on Tuesday, August 15, 1950 to Orvis Elmo and Ruby Cleo Almonrode Martin in Mena, Arkansas. 

Orvis served his country in the National Guard from 1969 to 1974 and then soon started a 34 year career working for Weyerhaeuser in Wickes. He was a great provider for his family and loved them dearly. Orvis loved to go deer hunting and was president of the Slate Creek Hunting Club. He and his wife, Linda attended Zafra Church of Christ. Orvis was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his two brothers, Rex Martin and Roy Martin, and one granddaughter, Madison Martin.

Orvis is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Linda Martin of Hatfield; his son and daughter in law, Scott and Brandy Martin of Mena; his two daughters and son in law, Wendy Martin of Hatfield and Sondra and Jonathan Rosson of Mena; four grandchildren, Mason Martin, Kody Martin, Kensey Rosson and Kaison Rosson all of Mena; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at the Six Mile Cemetery in Hatfield with Brother Donnie Jewell officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 4, 2018 from 6-8 P.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel. Services are entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena. 

Pallbearers are Laydel Risenhoover, Jon Bagley, Jock Owens, Mike Dunn, Danny Davis and JR Hicks.

Cathey E. Burger Obituary

Cathey E. Burger, age 57, of Mena passed away Friday, November 30, 2018 in Mena, Arkansas.


Cathey was born December 21, 1960 in Hereford, Texas to James Roy Mott and Rachel Morgan Mott. She was happily married to Howard Burger for 41 years. She was the Principal’s Secretary at Mena High School. Cathey was an avid Razorback fan and she enjoyed camping and gardening. She truly loved family gatherings and her dog Zoey, but most of all she treasured her grandbabies. She was a loving and thoughtful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend and will be greatly missed by all.


She is survived by husband: Howard Burger of Mena, Arkansas

Daughter: Jennifer Rowland and husband Rodney of Mena, Arkansas
