Susan Bell age 72 of Tyler, Texas passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2019 in Tyler. Texas

She was born November 8, 1946 in Ferndale, Michigan to the late Herbert Marlatt and the late Nancy Adult Marlatt. Susan was married to George Bell and retired from being an operations manager in the computer business. Susan was a kind gentle soul that had a strong faith in Jesus Christ her Lord and Savior. She enjoyed being outdoors fishing and camping with family and friends. She liked doing Yoga and listening to music. She loved animals and took great joy in themm, especially dogs. Above all she treasured her family. She was a loving and kind wife, mother, step-mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend to all.

She is survived by husband: George Bell of Tyler, Texas

Son: Todd Walrath of Jacksonville, Florida

Daughter: Samantha Rickard of Spring, Texas

Step-daughter: Shannon Woolsey of Eustace, Texas

Six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and two on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents Herbert and Nancy Marlatt.

Graveside service will be Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Pinecrest Memorial Park under the direction of the Beasley Wood Funeral Home of Mena.

Nodene Alice Parnell age 74 of Mena, Arkansas passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2019 in Mena, Arkansas.

She was born January 31, 1944 in Duckett, Arkansas to the late John Henry Garrison and the late Sarah Mae Bradley Garrison. Nodene loved and enjoyed being a homemaker to her family. She enjoyed watching “Golden Girls” and an avid movie watcher. One of her favorites movies was “Dirty Dancing”. Above all she loved and treasured her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to all who knew her.

She is survived by sons: Anthony Parnell of Springdale, Arkansas, John Parnell of Las Vegas, Nevada, Michael Parnell of Mena, Arkansas, and Jeffrey Parnell of Mena, Arkansas

Daughters: Cynthia Loyd of Wickes, Arkansas, Tammy Rogers of Grannis, Arkansas, Cherie Thacker and husband Leon of Mena, Arkansas, and LeeAnne Parnell of Fort Smith, Arkansas

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Jerry Watts and Betty Thomas, and a brother, Doyle Garrison.

Donnie Gene Smith Obituary

 
Donnie Gene Smith age 67 of Mena, Arkansas passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 29, 2019 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas surrounded by his wife and children.

Donnie was born on October 8, 1951 in Mena, Arkansas to the late James Franklin Looney and the late Louise Egger Looney. He was a loving and devoted husband to Regina Rowe Smith for 47 wonderful years. Donnie worked as a heavy equipment operator and was a foreman for Polk County Road Department for many years and retired from Forsgren, Inc. He always loved playing in the dirt! In his early days, he enjoyed working auctions and later in life, enjoyed going to auctions with his wife Regina. He was a devoted family man, that loved his family with all his heart. Those that knew Donnie were aware that providing for his family was his greatest calling and played a large part of guiding his life. Donnie adored his wife and loved sending her flowers and buying her jewelry. He admired beautiful sunsets and the outdoors, but above all he was strong, caring, compassionate and had a big heart for family and friends. He was a loving husband, dad, papa, brother, brother-in-law and friend to all who knew him. He will be dearly missed.

Sara Collins Umphress Read, age 89, of Mena, Arkansas formerly of Dallas, Texas, died Monday, January 28, 2019 at her home. She was born on Wednesday, January 22, 1930 to Charles Francis and Sarah Bradshaw Umphress in Dallas, Texas.

Sara was of the Methodist faith and was guided in life by her faith, children and family. She owned and operated KTER in Terrell, Texas and KBUS in Mexia, Texas with her husband, Bill Collins for twenty-five years. She was always a fan of Big Band music. Sara was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and a great friend and will be missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband and father of her children, Billy Joe Collins; her second husband, John Read; one son, Bill Collins; and two sisters, Annice Renz and Jerre Nurree.

Sara is survived by two sons and daughter in law, Joe and Susan Collins of Sunnyvale, Texas, and Andy Collins of Sunnyvale, Texas; one daughter and son in law, Denni and Lou Longoria of Mena; one sister, Pacheco Pyle of Dallas, Texas; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

A private service will be held in Dallas, Texas at a later date. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena, Arkansas.

Hilton Leroy Bell Obituary

Hilton Leroy Bell, age 89, of Vandervoort, Arkansas left his earthly home on January 28th, 2019. 

Hilton was born on top of Iron Mountain September 9th, 1929 to Thomas Arthur Bell and Ethel Underwood Bell. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 57 years Betty Joan Bell along with three brothers Freeman Bell, Gene Bell, and Wayman Bell and two sisters Mabel Egger Powell and Mavis Rice.

Hilton received a Bachelors in Agricultural Education from the University of Arkansas Fayetteville in 1956 and is known to countless students as Mr. Bell having taught at Van-Cove high school for 29 years and was a Broiler Grower for Tyson for 32 years. Hilton served in the United States Army for 14 months with a tour of duty in the Korean War earning two battle stars. He was recognized throughout his life for his principles, values and willingness to help his neighbors.

His greatest joy included his love for Christ which he shined brightly to a weary world, spending time in his beloved mountains and enjoying the company of his vast family and numerous friends. His love, strength, and stories of a time long ago will be greatly missed by many.

Gerald Lewis

September 20, 1941 - January 28, 2019

 

Gerald Lewis, age 77, of Pine Ridge, Arkansas died Monday, January 28, 2019 at the Mena Regional Health System. He was born on Saturday, September 20, 1941 to M.J. and Pearl Sherman Lewis in Mena, Arkansas.

Gerald was a lifelong member of the Little Hope Baptist Church and enjoyed the simple things in life. He worked as a machinist and farmer for much of his life and taking care of his cows gave him a lot of joy. Gerald loved his coffee and spending any time he could with his grandchildren. He was very proud of all his family and loved them all very much. Gerald was a loving father, brother, Paw Paw, Uncle Monkey and a great friend and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Gerald is survived by his son and daughter in law, Shawn and Kim Lewis of Arlington, Texas; two daughters and son in law, Kathy and Travis Dollar of Pine Ridge, and Debbie Inglis of Fort Worth, Texas; one brother and sister in law, Truman and Janet Lewis of Pine Ridge; four grandchildren, Ben Gaither of Fort Worth, Texas, Brady and Kristen Stewart of Fort Worth, Texas, Jacie Lewis of Arlington, Texas, and Bailey Lewis of Arlington, Texas; three nephews and nieces, Tammie Minton of Mena, Missie Reeves of Mena, and Rusty Lewis of Pine Ridge; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Willene Ward Maddox Obituary

Willene Ward Maddox age 96, of Mena, Arkansas passed away Monday, January 28, 2019 in Mena.
 
She was born on May 12, 1922 in Heavener, Oklahoma to the late William Henry and Julia Ford Watson. 
 
Willene started her teaching career in the Fall of 1942, teaching 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades at Eagleton, a part of the Acorn School System. The next year she moved to Acorn where she taught 1st and 2nd grades, as well as teaching Social Studies and Girls Physical Education. 
 
In the Fall of 1946 she moved to Mena and taught English in Junior High, and later High School English.
 
The Fall of 1956 she became the Librarian for Mena Public Schools where she spent the last 26 years. She retired from public school 1984. Willene was a Lifetime Member of the Arkansas Education Association. She served two terms on RMCC Foundation Board and was a member of First
Christian Church.
 
She is survived by step sons: George E. Ward of Thailand and Bill Maddox and wife Shawn of Tulsa, Oklahoma

Clifford was born on July 20, 1964 in Mena, Arkansas to Bob Ross Beaver and Peggy Reed Beaver. He was married to Robbin Marie Beaver. Clifford had an Associate Degree in Electrical Field from Carl Albert. He worked for Nidec for 13 years He enjoyed arrowhead hunting and was an avid history lover on World War II. Clifford liked to hunt with family and friends. Most of all he loved life and people. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to all who knew him. He will be dearly missed by all.

Dennis L. Keeton age 72 of Texarkana. Texas passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2019 in Texas.

He was born on January 9, 1947 in Mena, Arkansas to the late Lorin E. Keeton and the late Louise Capehart Keeton. He worked for Red River Army Depot repairing Army vehicles. He enjoyed flying model airplanes in his younger days. Dennis loved Rock and Roll music and collecting guitars as a hobby. He was a loving brother, uncle and friend. 

He is survived by sister: Janis Keeton of Republic, Missouri

Niece: Jordan Lemay of Albuquerque, New Mexico

Host of friends and acquaintances from AA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lorin E. and Louise Keeton, and a brother, Randy Keeton.

Florence Hazel Severson

July 28, 1921 - January 23, 2019

 

Florence Severson, age 97, of Cove, Arkansas passed peacefully away Wednesday, January 23, 2019 in Mena. She was born on July 28, 1921 in Muskegon, Michigan to the late Louis Gagnon and the late Alice Regno Gagnon.

Florence was a faithful member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and was often heard telling people how "God is taking care of me."

She was a licensed beautician in the state of Minnesota and spent many years in that field. She also enjoyed jobs in a garden center and in a factory making blimps. When she moved to Mena she spent 15 beautiful years giving long term loving care to many elderly women. Florence loved to cook and was known for her pies, cakes and various kinds of bread. She delighted in being out and about; dancing, playing cards, shopping and socializing. She was a dedicated bell ringer for the Salvation Army for many years and always dressed up to celebrate the ringing.

Florence loved all animals and especially her dogs. Peanut was forever by her side. She was her "baby."

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 53 years, Gordon Severson; five sisters, Eva Dault, Isabelle Gagnon, Margaret Beggel, Evelyn Juaire, and Beatrice Fuller, and by four brothers, Leo, Bill, Ed and Harry Gagnon.

Florence is survived by her only son, Steve and wife, Peggy of Cove. She has three grandsons; Tim and Pricila of Las Vegas, NV; Tom and Carolyn of Alvin, Texas; and Brian of Cove. There are also two great grandsons. As dear to her as family were Liz Super and family, Randy Zalky, and Barbara Hill, all of Cove; Diane and Robert Garcia, of Hatfield; and Ruth Velzke of Faribault, Minnesota. In addition many people loved her and will miss her from St. Agnes Catholic Church, where she was an unforgettable and faithful member.

It has been said in both Minnesota and in Arkansas, "If you see something coming down the road fast and glittery, you'll know it's Florence."

A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at St. Agnes Catholic Church. The rosary service will begin at 10:00 A.M. led by Deacon Tony Salamone. Mass will follow celebrated by the pastor, Father Joseph Shantiraj. Cremation services are entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena, Arkansas.

Florence will be taken to be buried next to her husband, Gordon in Minnesota at a later date.

James Aaron White Obituary

James Aaron White, age 71, of Mena, Arkansas passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2019 in Mena.

He was born November 5, 1947 in Mena, Arkansas to the late Wilbur Walter White and the late Juanita Brown White. James was married to Phyllis Phillips White for 47 years. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He also was a farmer and a crucial part of the VFD at Cherry Hill. He was a very outgoing person who loved to hunt, fish and spend time with grandchildren. James was an excellent role model for family and friends. He enjoyed serving his community and above all he loved his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and friend to all who knew him. He will dearly be missed.

Marjorie Avis Marthaler age 95, of Mena, Arkansas passed away Thursday, January 24, 2019 in Mena.

She was born on May 27, 1923 in Toledo, Illinois to the late Oscar William Lowry and the late Maudelene Caroline Wilkin Lowry. Marjorie was a loving homemaker and worked as a CNA. 

Marjorie loved the Lord and served Him with her powerful faith. She enjoyed sewing, singing and gardening.

The family would like to give special thanks to the staff at Mena Manor for their love and care.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all. She will be dearly missed.

She is survived by sons: Richard Warner of Mena, Arkansas, Raymond Warner and wife Linda of Mena, Arkansas, George Parkhurst of Topeka, Kansas, and William Parkhurst and wife Nancy of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin

Numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Oscar and Maudelene Lowry, husband Fred Marthaler, sons Paul Edward Bowman, Earl Parkhurst, Robin Parkhurst, and Michael Warner.

Mrs. Marthaler was sent for cremation under the direction of Beasley Wood Funeral Home of Mena.

Gerald Ray McNew, age 82, of Mena, Arkansas passed away Sunday, January 20, 2019 in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

He was born September 5, 1936 in Ashland, Nebraska to the late Hobert James McNew and the late Blanche Albert McNew. Gerald proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and was an electronic technician for Bell Helicopter by profession. Gerald was a faithful member of the Faith Missionary Baptist Church in Mena. A favorite hobby of his was putting together model railroads, aircraft models and classic car models. He enjoyed taking care of his dogs, Hope and Buddy, who were always by his side. He was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather, brother, and friend.

Survivors are sons: Daniel Ray McNew of The Colony, Texas, Timothy Lee McNew of Woodstock, Ohio, and Philip Alan McNew of Lewisville, Texas

Daughters: Kathryn Ann Philpot of Wolfe City, Texas and Patricia Lynn Ragan of Denton, Texas 

Twelve grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren

Sister: Rose Marie Bolton of Blair, Nebraska.

He was preceded in death by his parents Hobert and Blanche McNew, his wife, Jeanette McNew, a daughter, Barbara Barrett, and a brother Hobert J.”Toby” McNew, Jr.

He was born on October 27, 1948 in Mena, Arkansas to the late J.V. Wilhite and May Jo Strothers Wilhite. Melvin was happily married to Beverly Kay Trowbridge Harrison. He worked as a heavy equipment operator in construction until he retired. Melvin was a workaholic but still enjoyed being with family and friends hunting and fishing. He enjoyed going to lake and most of all sitting on his porch drinking coffee. Above all he appreciated and adored his family and serving God. Tessie was born December 07, 1942 in Muldrow, Oklahoma to the late Homer Welch and the late Pearline Johnson Ortner. She worked as a CNA for many years. Tessie enjoyed reading novels of all kinds and doing word puzzles. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed preparing meals for family and friends. Tessie thoroughly adored her dogs. Most of all she loved her family and friends. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to all. Tessie will be dearly missed.

Della M. Davis, age 95, of Mena, Arkansas passed away peacefully on Friday, January 18, 2019, in Mena Regional Health System.

She was born February 5, 1923 in Foose, Missouri to the late Zenith Patten and the late Susie Isabell Perdue Patten. The Pattens moved to Mena in 1928 and Della attended school at the Ransom School. She then lived out the rest of her life in Mena.

She was a nurse at Polk County Memorial Hospital for many years. She was also employed at Renova Shirt Factory as a supervisor for several years.

Her favorite pastime was vegetable and flower gardening. She also enjoyed writing poems, cross stitch, needle point work, quilting and canning.

Her number one priority in life was caring for her family and putting others’ welfare in the forefront.

She is survived by one daughter Joan Oats Purifoy and husband Marshall, two sons Donald Joe Davis, Jim “Jimbo” Davis and wife Linda, granddaughter Kalyse Greener and husband Steve, step-granddaughter Gemma Humphrey and husband Mike, grandson Patrick Purifoy and wife Kim, great granddaughter, Keeley Purifoy, step-grandson Ethan Nathe, step great-granddaughter Hadley Titsworth, great-grandsons Pierce Purifoy and Braden Donaldson, step great-grandson Gavin Humphrey, nephews Ernal Cunningham, Jeff Cunningham, Vester Parks, great-nephew Chris Head, great-nieces Melissa Tedford and Kelly Mos. Adopted family members were Dave Mitchell and Shelton Bohlman. Elizabeth “Pete” Hensley was a lifetime friend to Della and the family. She had a host of other friends including Lydia and other special nurses at Peachtree Assisted Living.

Funeral service will be Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Beasley-Wood Chapel with Brother Ronnie Wagner officiating. Interment will follow in the White Oak Cemetery under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.

Sherry worked as secretary /bookkeeper as a profession. She loved being outdoors fishing, camping, basically anything to do with being outdoors with family and friends. Sherry loved and adored spending time with her family and was a loving wife and mother. She will be missed by all. Sherry was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend to all who knew her.

Dorothy M. Collier, age 79, of Mena, Arkansas died Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at Mena Manor. She was born on Saturday, July 22, 1939 to John Cliner and Gladys Fletcher Prueitte in Lemoore, California.

Dorothy was of the Baptist faith and was guided in life by her friends and family. She worked as the cook at Country Express for twenty-four years where she was greatly appreciated for knowing how to have a good time. Dorothy loved raising her children and loved them immensely. She enjoyed all kinds of arts and crafts and had quite a knack for them. Dorothy was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and a great friend and will be missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack Collier Sr; her son, Michael Bain; two brothers, Roy Prueitte and David Prueitte; and two sisters, Mabel Dias and Bess Digario.

Dorothy is survived by four sons, Jack Collier Jr of California, Karl Collier of Mena, David Bain of Escondido, California, and Billy Bain of Oakhurst, California; one daughter, Michelle Overturf of Bass Lake, California; one brother, Junior Prueitte; one sister, JoAnn Hoover of Visalia, California; her nephew, Scott Horner; ten grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

A graveside service will be held at the Grannis Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 17, 2019. Arrangements are entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena, Arkansas.

Jimmy Lee Miner age 83, of Mena, Arkansas passed away peacefully at his home on January 12, 2019 in Mena.


Jimmy was born on August 28, 1935 in Waldron, Arkansas to the late Myrtle Rogers Miner and the late James “Jim” Miner. He was united in marriage in March 1954 to Annie Fay Venable Miner. He was blessed with six children, twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.


Jimmy worked most of his life as a small business owner of a timber operation. He had a great love for his wife, his family, outdoor work, auto racing, dominoes, and ice cream, especially home-made ice cream. As a race car driver, he was affectionately known as Burrhead and was known by all for his sense of humor. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to all who knew him.


He is survived by his wife: Annie Faye Miner of Mena, Arkansas

Robert (Bob) Paul Piearcy Sr. Obituary

 

Robert "Bob" Paul Piearcy Sr. age 77, of Mena, died Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at John L. McClellan Memorial Hospital in Little Rock. He was born on Monday, March 17, 1941 to Philip Anderson and Elsie Lannie Keen Piearcy in Hugo, Oklahoma.

Bob was a Godly man with strong Christian values whose bible and faith guided his life. He attended the Mena Freewill Baptist Church and regularly participated in home bible studies. Bob proudly served two tours in the United States Army during Vietnam as a military police officer. After his enlistment, Bob went on to work for Alltel for 28 years before retiring. Whenever he found time, Bob was an avid golfer. But, nothing was as important to him as his family and Jesus Christ. Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and a great friend who will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Sue Piearcy; two brothers, David Piearcy and Philip Piearcy; and one sister, Cleta Rose.

Ethel Barton Elliott Obituary

Ethel Barton Elliott, 93, of Marietta, Georgia passed away peacefully January 4, 2019 with her family by her side.

She was born to the late William F. (Jack) Barton and Lula Maebell Faulkner of Cherry Hill community and Mena on December 1, 1925. Ethel was a direct descendent of many of Cherry Hill’s earliest settlers.

She graduated from Cherry Hill High School and attended Henderson State Teachers College in Arkadelphia where she met her husband to be and life partner, John C. Elliott, in 1944, and they were married that year. She and “JC” lived in Mena and also traveled extensively with his career in the U.S. Army.

They returned to Mena in 1975 and settled on a small farm on Fairgrounds Road. They loved gardening and taking care of their farm. They were very active in the Mena First United Methodist Church until their move to Georgia in 2004 to be near family. Ethel was content in Georgia, but she frequently spoke of looking forward to returning to her real home which was Mena, Cherry Hill, and the Ouachita Mountains.

She is survived by one son John F. Elliott (Leigh) of Marietta, Georgia; grandchildren Dena R. Baltimore (Chris) of Pearland, Texas; Laura S. Stevens (Jason) of Dahlonega, Georgia; John David Elliott (Katrina) of Marietta, Georgia; and six great grandchildren; Joshua Baltimore; Ella Kate Elliott; John David Elliott Jr.; Kaleb Stevens; Charlotte Elliott; Ethan Stevens. She is also survived by two siblings, James Lloyd Barton of Mena, and Mary Louise Barton Holland of Austell, Georgia.

Graveside service and interment at the Cherry Hill Cemetery on January 12, 2019 at 10:30 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 1:30 p.m.at the Mena First United Methodist Church.

Family and friends visitation will be Friday, January 11, 2019 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Beasley Wood.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Mena First United Methodist Church.

She was born July 10, 1945 in Searcy, Arkansas to the late Claud Massey and the late Nola Wilkerson Massey. Ann worked for Cowden’s for ten years and for twenty plus years as a Wal Mart Associate. Above all Ann loved God and her family genuinely and was proud of each one.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to all who knew her. She will be dearly missed by all. Ann was a mom or nanny to everyone she met.

In his free time, Andy liked deer hunting, going fishing, and doing woodworking. His daughters were the apple of his eye and he loved every second he spent with them. John Andrew Dozier, age 42, of Mena, Arkansas, died Friday, December 28, 2018 at his home. He was born on Wednesday, June 9, 1976 to Charles Averitt Dozier and Charlotte Ann Rogers Kraiger in Shreveport, Louisiana. 

John was a quiet man with a fun loving personality. He enjoyed fishing for catfish and bass and deer hunting. John enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. John worked at several different jobs over the years where he learned several different skills. He currently was working in the automotive department at WalMart. John was a loving father, brother uncle and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his sister, Stephanie Ferry.

Evelyn Ann Waxler, age 49, of Mena, Arkansas died Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at home surrounded by family. She was born on Tuesday, May 20, 1969 to Elzie Ray and Velma Hooter Waxler in Marshall, Texas.

Evelyn loved her family with all her heart. She liked to go shopping, play softball and take her boys fishing. Evelyn's specialty was cooking fried potatoes, pinto beans, and sweet cornbread to the delight of her family. However, her favorite food to eat was tacos and a Dr. Pepper to drink. She was a big Dallas Cowboys fan and she enjoyed the thrill of the casino on occasion. Evelyn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and a great friend and will be missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Wendy Waxler; and one granddaughter, Jadelynn Davis.

Joe Dell Smalley, age 91, of Cove, Arkansas died Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at his home. He was born on Monday, October 10, 1927 to Franklin Doctor and Vera Gober Smalley in Celeste, Texas.

Joe was a founding member of the Whole Council of God Church in 1975 and attended faithfully for the rest of his life. He proudly served in the United States Army during World War II. Joe went on to be a truck driver for over 30 years before retiring from Yellow Freight. Joe was proud of the Safe Driver Pens he accrued while truck driving and was a longtime member of the Teamsters. God and family were always his main priorities and gave him the most joy in life. He liked to listen to Gospel music and work in the garden and yard. He also volunteered for the Cove Volunteer Fire Department. Joe was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and a great friend and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Dewey Smalley, J.D. Smalley, Frank Smalley, G.W. Smalley, and Philip Smalley; three sisters, Ruthie Adamson, Maxine Smalley, and Vera Smalley.

Dottie loved to cook and was a lover of animals. She was a wonderful neighbor and friend to all she met. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and will be missed by many.

She is survived by sons: Tillman Putman of Mena, Arkansas and Carroll Putman of Houston, Texas

Daughter: Janet Hill of Camden, Arkansas

Sister: Mikki Moore of Houston, Texas

Grandchildren: Lillee Hill and David Hill.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tuly Putman, her parents, Hubert and Gertie Moore, her son, Truman Putman, and two brothers, Marty and Van Moore.

Mrs. Putman was sent for cremation under the direction of the Beasley Wood Funeral Home. A private family service will be held at a later time. Memorials may be made in her name to the Humane Society of your choice.

Walter Darrell Barton Obituary

Walter Darrell Barton, age 83, of Cove, Arkansas passed away December 29, 2018 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

He was born August 16, 1935 in Cove, Arkansas to the late Gilbert Henry Barton and the late Hattie Marie Elem Barton. He was united in marriage to Theda Joyce Springer, his wife of 58 years. Mr. Barton retired from General Motors in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was a member of the Cove First Baptist Church where he was the Sunday School Superintendent. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He will be dearly missed.

Children: Lynette House and husband Dan of Vandervoort, Arkansas, Dennis Barton and wife Dawn of Mustang, Oklahoma, James Barton and wife Alicia of Yukon, Oklahoma, and Garrett Barton of Cove, Arkansas

Sisters: Florence Melton of Bethany, Oklahoma and Rena Gower and husband Bill of San Antonio, Texas

Brother: Kenneth Barton and wife Glenda of DeQueen, Arkansas

7 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren

Many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Gilbert and Marie Barton and his sons Robert Dwayne Brock and Rusty Barton.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 4, 2019 at the Cove First Baptist Church with Brother Ron Ladd officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Cove, Arkansas under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. Visitation will be general.

Pallbearers will be Dean Barton, Billy Barton, Bobby Rhodes, Keith Roberts, Pack Roberts and Michael Ventris.
