Beverly Sue Southard Reed died on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at Baptist Health in Little Rock. Arkansas. Her graveside service will be held Monday, March 2, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Owens Chapel Cemetery in Mena, Arkansas with Dr. Randy Urwiller officiating with arrangements by Beasley Wood Funeral Home.


Beverly was born on May 23, 1942 in Story, Arkansas to James and Evelyn Southard. She graduated from Mena High School in the spring of 1960 and married Oscar “OJ” Reed on October 29, 1960 in Heavener, Oklahoma. Together she and OJ raised three children. She was a member of the United Church of God, meeting with the congregation in Queen City, Texas.


She was a skilled quilter, who also enjoyed scrapbooking, crochet, knitting, playing cards and, most of all, spending time with her family.


Beverly is remembered by family and friends as a thoughtful, kind woman who touched the lives of so many with her beautiful smile and caring heart. Her strength was a testament of her faith in God.


She was preceded in death by: her parents, James and Evelyn (Stephens) Southard; her sister, VaRue (Southard) Schofield Wheaton; and her son in law, Curtis A. Hayes.


She is survived by : her husband, Oscar “OJ” Reed of Lockesburg, Arkansas; daughter, Pamela (Reed) Prather and husband Chris Prather of Tatum, Texas; son, Thomas Reed and wife Bonne (Barfield) of Big Sandy, Texas; daughter Cheryl Jo (Reed) Hayes of Whitewright, Texas; grandchildren, Erin (Prather) Loewe and husband Jason, Daniel Prather, Dustan Prather, Trevor Reed and wife Alaina (Cox), Savanna (Reed) Stanford and husband Joshua, Hanna Reed, Dalton Hayes, and Reagan Hayes; great-grandchildren, Cadence Loewe, Kennon Loewe, and Adelaide Reed; siblings, Joe Southard and wife Carol (Wright) of Mooringsport, LA; Sarah (Southard) Curry and husband Buck Titsworth of Mena, AR; and, numerous family and friends.


In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make a donation the Beverly’s name to Arkansas Children’s Hospital.


Pallbearers will be Dalton Hayes, Dustan Prather, Wes Kimp, James Curry, Jared Curry, Tommy Smith and Stanley Beaver.

Lora “Pauline” Smedley Shaw of Simms, Texas formerly of Vandervoort, Arkansas passed away to her Heavenly home on February 27, 2020.

Pauline loved being with her family and loved helping others. She was a Pastors wife and loved ministering to others. Pauline loved flowers and enjoyed going and didn’t like to just stay at home. She always wanted to be doing something. Above all she loved her Lord and Savior Jesus. Pauline was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great- grandmother and friend to all who knew her.

She is survived by:

She and Maurice have 22 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great- grandchildren.
Pauline was preceded in death by her first husband Reverend Raymond Smedley, son Paul Smedley, daughter Charlene Fortner, and four sisters and one brother.

Funeral service will be Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at First Assembly of God Church in Mena, Arkansas with Brother Ron Tilley and Brother Tim Smedley officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Cove, Arkansas under the direction of the Beasley Wood Funeral Home of Mena.

Family and friends visitation will be at 1:00 p.m. at First Assembly of God Church prior to service.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons Chris Fortner, Steve Fortner, Jason Matejek, Treys Smedley, Tony Smedley, Tyler Smedley, Logan Smedley and Robert Smedley.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mike Fortner, Mark Matejek, Dean Phillips, Tommy Shaw and Jeff Shaw.

Clifford David Lane Obituary

 
Clifford David Lane age 86 of Blackfork, Arkansas passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2020 in Blackfork.

Clifford was born on May 15, 1933 in Blackfork, Arkansas to Charlie Lane and Vivian Campbell Lane, who raised him in Blackfork, Arkansas. He was married to Emma Ruby May Bissell Lane until her passing in 2001. Clifford worked as a logger, truck driver and raised cattle. He also, enjoyed coon hunting, horse riding, and going to sale barns. He dearly loved and enjoyed his family, Clifford was a loving and devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to all who knew him. He will be dearly missed.

He is survived by on: Terry Lane of Blackford, Arkansas

Daughters: Judy Schuller and husband Jim of Mena, Arkansas, Joan Marshall and husband Charles of Mena, Arkansas, Jane Seaton and husband Bobby of Chouteau, Oklahoma, and Julie Woodral and husband Freddie of Waldron, Arkansas

Graveside service will be Sunday, March 01, 2020, 4:00 p.m. at Piney Cemetery in Blackfork, Arkansas under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons, David Hill, Little Clifford Lane, Chase Lane, Douglas Seaton, Russell Lane, Darren Woodral, and Buck Lane.

January 11, 1950 - February 24, 2020

 

Letha Darlene Salguero, age 70, of Hatfield, Arkansas died Monday, February 24, 2020 at her home. She was born on Wednesday, January 11, 1950 to Melvin Jessie and Alta Madlyn Turner Grayham in Vallejo, California.

Darlene was a Godly woman who attended the Zafra and Lenox Church of Christ for many years. By all accounts, Darlene was a firecracker with a spice for life. She was feisty, but also incredibly loving and protective. She did cross country truck driving for many years. Darlene enjoyed quilting, sewing, crocheting, gardening, and was always up for experiencing new places or embarking on a new adventure. She liked old rock, especially Janis Joplin, as well as classic country and Christian music. Darlene loved participating in Bible School and the Church Women's Retreat and was active in the Boy Scouts for over ten years. Above all, Darlene loved her family and was extraordinarily proud of her kids and grandchildren. Darlene was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents; and one grandson, Richard Benish.

Darlene is survived by her loving husband of 26 years, Rogelio Salguero of Hatfield; one son and daughter in law, Rogelio and Tasha Salguero of Mena; one daughter, Misty Benish of Gridley, California; one brother, Donald Roy of Arizona; two sisters and brother in law, Alta Grayham of Arizona, and Terri and Denver Borders of Arizona; four grandchildren, Anthony Beasley of Gridley, California, Zayden Salguero, Annalise Salguero, and Myla Salguero all of Mena; close friend, Tiny Sue Campbell of Hatfield; several nephews and nieces and a host of other family and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. at the Zafra Church of Christ in Smithville, Oklahoma with Brother Kent Perkins officiating. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena, Arkansas.

October 5, 1934 - February 22, 2020

 

Hershal Willard Douglas, age 85, of Oden, Arkansas formally of Alexandria, Louisiana died Saturday, February 22, 2020 at the Mena Regional Health System. He was born on Friday, October 5, 1934 to Edward and Eunice Hodnett Douglas in Colfax, Louisiana.

Hershal served his country in the United States Navy to return home and begin a 40 years career in Funeral Service. He graduated in 1958 from Dallas Institute Gupton Jones College of Mortuary Science. He worked at Rush Funeral Home for many years in Alexandria then finished his career at Kramer Funeral Home in Alexandria. Upon his retirement, he and his wife, Josette moved to Oden, Arkansas. Hershal enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, woodworking, loved music and ballroom dancing. He was a member of the All Saints Catholic Church in Mount Ida, Arkansas. Hershal was a loving husband, son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and a great friend who will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his son, Daniel Douglas; one brother, Harold Douglas and two sisters, Thelma Slater and Shelba Lubtz. .

Hershal is survived by his wife, Josette Douglas of Oden; his son, Dr. Michael Ribauda of Georgia; two daughters, Sandra DeLaune of Alexandria, Louisiana and Josettea Thames of Shreveport, Louisiana; his brother, J.W. Douglas of Leesville, Louisiana; two sisters, Marjorie Morgan of Hot Springs, Arkansas and Gwen Coco of Buffalo, Texas; grandchildren, Melissa Young, Michelle Roberts, Charlene DeLaune, Dianna Beavers and Charles Ribauda; several grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held at a later date with cremation services entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena.

Mary 'Beth' Plunkett Dickerson Obituary

Mary (Beth) Plunkett Dickerson, age 75, of Yuma, Arizona passed away due to ALS on February 17, 2020.
 
She was born December 25, 1944 in El Centro, California to Harold (Spud) Plunkett and Florence Plunkett. 

 

She worked at General Dynamics before retiring and moving to Mancos, Colorado. and then to Yuma, Arizona.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jim Dickerson; and son, Craig Dickerson. 

 

She is survived by her son Chris Dickerson of San Diego, California and his wife Katherine; grandsons Ethan and Seth of San Diego; her brothers Harold Dean Plunkett and sister-in-law Sandy Plunkett of Colorado; Bobby Plunkett and sister-in-law Carol Plunkett of California; and her sister Pat Pavao and brother-in-law Tony Pavao of California., as well as many nieces and nephews. 

 

Memorial services will be held on Friday March 13th, 10:30 a.m. at El Cajon Cemetery, 2080 Dehesa Rd., El Cajon, California.

Ruth Marie Campbell Obituary

 
Ruth Marie Campbell, age 99 of Mena, Arkansas passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2020. She came into this world on May 28, 1920 in Nunley, Arkansas to James Poole Wagoner and Clara Bell Brumley Wagoner, and the oldest of 5 children.

Our mother Ruth always looked forward to the new day, especially when it was warm and the sun was shining. She was an excellent cook and of generous disposition, and never turned down a hungry face. She even managed to make people love greens, but was especially famous for her homemade bread that she made every week until she turned 95! She loved antiques and was a talented quiltmaker and made all of our beautiful clothes and quilts. Mom loved to entertain and always enjoyed playing Bridge with her dear friends, Helen Dillinger, Mary Jo Abernathy, Paula Brotherton, Elsa Paas and Ida Pitchford. She left this world in a most beautiful and peaceful way, surrounded by her loving family. She would have celebrated her 100th birthday in May, but instead, lay down and shut her eyes among the people she loved the most. She will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her daughters, Becky Borovac and Ellen Campbell, grandchildren, Anjali Carreras and Sesa Carreras, a great grandchild, Bella Carreras, her friend and caretaker, Tony Bunch, and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Clara Bell Wagoner, a brother, J.P. Wagoner and three sisters, Helen Masters, Mildred Sherran and Ruby Lou McCoy.

Ruth was sent for cremation under the direction of the Beasley Wood Funeral Home. No services are scheduled at this time.

Charles F. (C. F.) Brumbelow age 85 of Mena, Arkansas passed away Wednesday, February 19, 2020 in Mt. Ida.

C.F. was born on August 15,1934 in Mena, Arkansas to Terrell and Eula Spencer Brumbelow. He was married to Donna Woll on November 18, 1954.
 
C.F. (as he was known) was an avid cattleman, it wasn’t a hobby, it was his life. He knew the words to every John Wayne movie ever made! He loved the land, his family, his dog and a good steak! He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend. He will be dearly missed.

C.F. was survived by daughters: Brenda Fisher and husband David of Hatfield, Arkansas and Pam Huff of Mena, Arkansas

Michael James Vieira

October 2, 1989 - February 18, 2020

 

Michael James Vieira, age 30, of Mena, died Tuesday, February 18th, 2020 at St. Vincent Hospital in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He was born on Monday, October 2nd, 1989 to Jessie James Vieira and Carrie Florene Kelton in Sacramento, California.

To those who knew Mike, he was a great all-around guy, always there to lend a hand when needed, and was a pleasure to be around. The stories and jokes he would tell, will never be forgotten and will be forever cherished. He will forever be known for his thoughtful gestures. He graduated from Acorn High School in 2008 and went on to work at Hatfield Lumber driving a forklift. Many who knew Michael knew him from the Bus Barn for Acorn Schools as well as a manager for AutoZone. He enjoyed working on cars and practiced blacksmithing in his spare time. He loved his family and took comfort in being with them, making them laugh and picking on everyone. Michael was a loving fiance, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend and will be missed by all.

He is preceded in death by his father, Jessie Vieira; his sister, Jessica Vieira-Kizzar; and his grandmother, Charlotte Morgan.

Michael is survived by his loving fiance, Brandi McMellon of Mena; his maternal great grandmother, Dovey Thomas of Roanoke, Texas; his mother, Carrie Kelton of Ink; stepfather, Tim Kelton of Ink; one son, Blaine Davy of Mena; one daughter, Kara Vieira of Athens, Texas; two brothers, James Vieira and Joey Severns of Atwater, California, four sisters, Kristin Munger of Mena, Dawn White of Alvord, Texas, Jeralyn Ramzy of Mena, Sabrina Vieira of Atwater, California; and father figure, Jerry Whalen of Mena; several nieces and nephews, and several other relatives and friends that will miss him dearly.

Funeral services will be Saturday, February 22nd, 2020 at 2:00pm, at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Stacy Strother officiating. Interment will follow in the Canaanland Church Cemetery under the direction of Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena. There will a viewing during the service on Saturday as well as a dinner after graveside services. Please feel welcomed to come and share your condolences with the family.

Earline George Liner Smith age 89, of Sherwood, Arkansas passed away to her Heavenly home Tuesday, February 18, 2020.
On March 26, 1930 Earline was born to Daisy Nona Shimpock and Earl Edward George in Cove, Arkansas.
Earline loved to laugh and cut up with her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and anyone else who would rise to the challenge. She was a Certified Dietician, a great cook, loved to go “junkin”, a great seamstress and most importantly, knew the Lord.
She is survived by daughters: Marcy Eckolls and husband Thad of North Little Rock, Arkansas, and Susan Wilcher and husband Larry of Wickes, Arkansas
Son: Dwight Liner and wife Cindy of Arlington, Texas
Grandchildren: Dawn Wilcox, Geoff Wilcher, Andrea McElveen, Penny Dedmon, Trent Handley, Kenneth Liner, Christy Pruitt, and Taylor Kouba

August 17, 1937 - February 16, 2020
 
A.J. Cole, age 82, of Mena, died Sunday, February 16, 2020 at Springfield Rehabilitation in Springfield, Missouri. He was born on Thursday, August 17, 1937 to James and Dovie Standridge Cole in Mena, Arkansas.
 
A.J. was a southern Baptist pastor in Polk County for over forty years, most recently at the Salem Baptist Church in Nunley. He enjoyed getting to know people and spreading the good word. Every church that he pastored became like family, and nothing was more important to A.J. than God and family. He served in the United States National Guard and was a longtime member of the NRA and the Southern Baptist Convention. A.J. really loved being in nature and having hunting and fishing adventures. He was passionate about NASCAR and even did some race car driving in California in his younger years. A.J. was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend and will be missed by all who knew him.
 
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sherry Cole; one son, Tracy Cole; one brother, Steve Cole and one sister, Ginger Cole.
 
A.J. is survived by one son, Troy Cole of Springfield, Missouri; one daughter and son in law, Mitzi and Sam Pearl of Watson, Oklahoma; two brothers, Farrell Cole of Mena and Jerry Cole of Wrightwood, California; four grandchildren, Dalton Pearl of Mena, Jenna Pearl of Watson, Oklahoma, Bryce Cole and Charli Cole both of Springfield, Missouri; two great grandchildren, Kaden Pearl and Krystal Pearl both of Mena; several nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
 
Funeral services will be Friday, February 21, 2020 at 2:00 P.M. at the Concord Baptist Church in Ink with Brother Ron Ladd and Brother Jerry Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in the Concord Cemetery under the direction of Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena. There is no visitation planned.
 
Pallbearers will be Troy Cole, Bryce Cole, Farrell Cole, Jerry Cole, Sam Pearl, and Dalton Pearl.

She was born on June 30, 1941 in Eagleton, Arkansas to the late Buford Gilbert and the late Bessie Little Gilbert. Sue was married to Wade R. Stewart for 48 ½ years. She taught Sunday School for 30 years, which she dearly enjoyed. Sue loved being outdoors gardening, camping and fishing with her family. She also enjoyed reading a good book for her pastime. Sue was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to all who knew her. She will be dearly missed.

She was born on November 12, 1939 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Alvin Christeson and the late Clara Wilkins Christeson. Delores worked in the Poultry business as a plant worker. She was a very talented seamstress and enjoyed drawing. Never meeting a stranger, as she enjoyed talking and visiting. Delores liked to go to yard sales, where she always enjoyed talking and visiting. Above all she loved her grandchildren and her family. She was a loving and kind mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.

She is survived by son: Rodney Lawrence and wife Judy of Bay City, Texas

Daughters: Jean Denton-Pfaff and husband Mike of Smithville, Oklahoma and Lottie Lewis and husband Jerry of Waldron, Arkansas

Six grandsons, three granddaughters, and twenty-three great-grandchildren.

Jean Marie Jacobs, age 87, of Cherry Hill, Arkansas died Monday, February 10, 2020 at her home. She was born on Friday, April 22, 1932 to Holger and Gwendolyn Christiansen in Racine, Wisconsin.

Jean worked as a technician for IBM for many years. She liked the outdoors and enjoyed life on the farm with her loving husband, John. Jean was a loving wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

Jean is survived by her loving husband of 70 years, John Jacobs of Cherry Hill, Arkansas; one son, Tony Jacobs of Cherry Hill; two daughters and sons in law, Lori and Ed Adams of Manteca, California, and Midge Jacobs and Robin Robbins of Babbitt, Minnesota; four grandchildren and several great grandchildren; several nephews and nieces and a host of other family and friends.

Mr. James Franklin West, 79, of Watson, Oklahoma passed away Saturday, February 8, 2020 at his home.

James was born in Kingfisher, Oklahoma on November 4, 1940 to the late Stanley Lee West and the late Gladys Louise White West. He was married to Donna Wilson West for 60 years. Mr. West was a mechanic and a master craftsman, showing his many talents rebuilding and restoring cars. He also had a love for the outdoors and nature and was an avid fisherman, aviarist and florist. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a friend to all.

He is survived by wife: Donna West of Watson, Oklahoma

Mr. Hailey was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing and gardening and burrows. Above all he was devoted to his family, whom he loved dearly. He was a loving son, husband, father, step-father, grandfather, uncle and friend.

Lucy Allison Brownlow, age 72, of Mena, Arkansas died Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at the Rich Mountain Nursing and Rehab. She was born on Friday, June 27, 1947 to Earl Carlisle and Bernadean Evelyn Rhys Brownlow in Dallas, Texas.

Lucy was a Christian and loved her family above all. She worked over 20 years for Southern Disposal in Mena at the Hatfield Transfer Station. Lucy loved doing woodworking and decoupage art work. Lucy was a loving sister, aunt and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, William Chance, Garman Chance and David Chance and two sisters, Nancy Brownlow and Patricia O'Dell.

Lucy is survived by her brother, Fred Chance of Haslet, Texas; her beloved sister, Jenny Kidwell of Mena; her beloved fur babies, Sally and Jar Jar; several nephews and nieces and a host of other family and friends.

A celebration of life will be Monday, February 10, 2020 at 1:00 P.M. at the Covenant of Life Church with Brother Curtis Cox officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Cove. Mr. Gaylord Rush Keener, 84, of Mena, Arkansas passed away Monday, February 3, 2020 in Mena.

He was born November 19, 1935 in Mena, Arkansas to the late John Wiley Keener and the late Helen Christine Rush Keener. He was happily married to Cordelia Jane Curry Keener. He was the local Snap on Tool Man and was also retired from Aalfs Manufacturing. Rush loved watching the Razorbacks and the Cowboys play football and was an avid gardener and hunter. He never met a stranger, but his true passion was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend and will be deeply missed.

Joe Allen Lister, age 75, of Hatton, Arkansas passed away on Monday, February 3, 2020 at his home. He was born on Thursday, March 3, 1944 to Roy Sr. and Awilda Pearl Medearis Lister in Wichita, Kansas.

Joe was always smiling and enjoying life, no matter what was thrown his way. His optimism and good advice was admired by anyone close to him. He served in the United States Army in Military Intelligence and was very proud to have served his country. Later, Joe restored boats at a marina in Texas, with a lot of fine woodworking. He was a very talented woodworker and was always busy crocheting a new afghan for friends and family. Joe enjoyed his daily coffee and talking with his brother. His family was very important to him, and he always enjoyed life to the fullest at every opportunity. Joe was a loving brother, uncle, and a great friend and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Jeanie Fowler.

Joe is survived by two brothers and sister in law, Roy and Marilyn Lister of Hatton, and Johnny Lister of Hatton; several nieces and nephews, Pearl and Richard Hexamer of Hatfield, and Roy and Lisa Lister of Hatton; eight great nieces and nephews, and many great-great nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Elizabeth Jane Bellon, age 38, of Cherry Hill, Arkansas died Monday, February 3, 2020 at the Mena Regional Health System. She was born on Sunday, April 5, 1981 to John Thomas Jr. and Mary Emma Casey Jobe in Conroe, Texas.

Elizabeth was a lady of faith and love for her family. Her home and her family she made with her husband, Tom was the most important aspect of her life. She made her home a place where her children flourished and was nurtured. Elizabeth was a member of the Cherry Hill Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing and doing her needlepoint. Elizabeth loved playing music and was so talented she could play almost any instrument she picked up. She attended Williams Baptist College on and Band and Choir Scholarship when she graduated high school. Elizabeth was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her father, John Jobe Jr.
