Donald Oscar Ward Obituary

Donald Oscar Ward, age 83 of Mena, Arkansas, passed away Friday, April 24, 2020 in Ft. Smith, Arkansas.

He was born January 16, 1937 in Hatfield, Arkansas to Oscar and Bess (Richardson) Ward. Donald was united in marriage to Constance Ward for 58 years. He worked as an electronics engineer in the aviation field and loved to paint and draw. Donald also enjoyed playing the guitar, wood working, and spending time with family. He will be dearly missed.

Daughters: Jennifer Kramer of California, Cindi Ward Campbell of California, Lisa Ward of California, Sherri Miller of Arkansas, and Kim Taylor of California

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one sister.

Travis Earl Davis Obituary

Travis Earl Davis, age 50 of Mena, Arkansas, passed away Monday, April 27, 2020 in Mena.

Travis was born March 5, 1970 in Mena to Herman and Pauline Davis. He was married to Mary Davis until her passing. Travis worked as an aircraft detailer for Crider Aircraft in Mena. He loved deer hunting, fishing, and Arkansas basketball. Travis will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors are sons: Logan Alexander Davis and Matthew E. Davis

Grandchildren: Hank Davis and Maryann Davis

Mother: Pauline Davis

Brothers: Johnny Davis, James Davis, and Kenny Davis

Sister: Cindy Weatherford.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary, and his father Herman.

Graveside service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 28, 2020, at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Mena Arkansas with Brother Roger Bishop officiating.

Honorary pallbearers are his co-workers at Crider Aircraft.

Services are under the direction of Beasley Wood Funeral Home.

Johnny Ray Brown Jr. Obituary

Johnny Ray Brown Jr., age 42 of Mena, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2020 in Oklahoma.

He was born August 31, 1977 in Durant, Oklahoma, to Johnny Ray brown Sr. and Phyllis Lyons Floyd. Johnny enjoyed fishing and being outdoors. He also enjoyed eating, making people laugh, and just being goofy, but most of all, loved his family and spending quality time with them. He was a loving father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend to all. He will be dearly missed.

Graveside service will be Friday, May 1, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Gaston Cemetery in Black Springs, Arkansas. Services are under the direction of Beasley Wood Funeral of Mena.

Deane Forrest Schuller Obituary

Deane Forrest Schuller

June 25, 1931 - April 24, 2020

 

Deane Forrest Schuller, age 88, of Mena was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on June 25, 1931 to John William and Celia Hana Cox Schuller. He was the seventh child of a family of nine. Deane and his family lived in Minnesota and Illinois before moving to Fennimore, Wisconsin. He worked after school at the Gamble Store and later at a full time job at Kroger. Upon being transferred to Darlington, Wisconsin, he worked as the head produce clerk until called to service to the U.S. Army in 1952. After being honorably discharged from the service, he returned to Kroger for a total of 17 ½ years.

Deane met his future wife, Susan Marlene Mathews, in 1951 in Fennimore, and they were married November 28, 1954. Deane was offered a position managing the Ben Franklin store in Darlington, which he accepted. He worked in this position for four years. After a brief time, he was offered the opportunity to run the Ben Franklin store in Mena, AR, and the family moved in 1974. He worked in this capacity for 3 ½ years, then he went into carpentry work until retirement. Deane made many wonderful friends along his way. He was an avid Green Bay Packers and Arkansas Razorbacks fan. He enjoyed wood crafts and was a jack of all trades. Deane was a member of the Nazarene Church and loved the Lord. A father, grandfather, and great-grandfather - - he will be greatly missed by all.

Deane is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and two sisters, and a son, Dale.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Sue, two daughters, Debbie Schuller and Sandra Pruitt, both of Mena, and five sons, Jim and wife Judy, Mike and wife Terri, Bill, Brian and wife Lisa, and Steven and wife Kristi, all of Mena, and a dear son/friend, Steven and wife Ethel Sherill. He is also survived by two brothers, Gary of Fennimore, Wisconsin and Dick of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, along with one sister, Phyllis Ann Jerett of Hazel Green, Wisconsin.

Also surviving Deane are 15 grandchildren and their spouses and 14 great-grandchildren.

A private family memorial service will be held Tuesday, April 28, 2020 with arrangements are entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena, Arkansas.

Mrs. Charlene Ann Phillips Obituary

Mrs. Charlene Ann Phillips, age 78, of Mena passed away at her home Friday, April 24, 2020, surrounded by her loved ones.

Charlene was born August 20, 1941 in Boulder, Colorado to the late Donald Whitmore and Mary Downey Whitmore. She was married to Thomas Phillips until his passing. During her working career she was a bookkeeper for many years. In her spare time, she loved going to casinos and sitting down to read a good book. But perhaps one of her favorite things to do was feeding her critters. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend to all that knew her and will be dearly missed by all.

She is survived by son: Dale Walters and wife Katherine of Mena, Arkansas

Daughters: Missy Pledger and husband David of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Dee Beard of Mena, Arkansas, and Mari Georg and husband Stefan of Grapevine, Texas

Grandchildren: Tori, Ryan, Jake, Pamela, John, Quinn, Sydney, and Lily

Great grandchildren: Grayson, Jackson, Mary Lou, Will, Isabella, Alfredo, Paisley, and Bailey.

Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Thomas; a daughter, Ronda, son Terry; and siblings, Jim, Larry, and Myrna.

Charlene was sent for cremation under the direction of Beasley Wood Funeral Home of Mena. There are no services at this time and maybe announced later.

Gary Alan Paskewitz, age 64, of Mena, AR passed away peacefully at home April 19, 2020.

Gary was born September 13, 1955 in Granite Falls, Minnesota.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Delbert and Lorraine Paskewitz.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Beckie.

Daughter: Amanda Epperson and husband Ben of Mena, AR.

Son: Michael Paskewitz and wife Monica of Melbourne, AR.

Grandchildren: Brent, Travis, and Samuel Epperson and Maddie and Maylee Paskewitz.

Sisters: Becky Gortemiller and husband Bill; Connie Newbolt and husband Buddy; Peggy Wright and husband Bob, Julie House and husband Stan; and Ruth Howell and husband Tracy.

Dr. Richard Carver Obituary

Dr. Richard Carver, age 80 of Mena, Arkansas passed away April 22, 2020 at his home.

Rick was born March 28, 1940 in Mena, Arkansas to Richard Addison Carver and Frances Avery Finks Carver.

He grew up in Mena but was a 1958 graduate of Lake Village High School, as his parents moved there for a short time. Rick grew up in a large loving family with 5 brothers and 1 sister. After graduation, he joined the Army National Guard for 6 years, which delayed his college career for 2 years. He attended Henderson State University before attending S. C. O. (Southern College of Optometry) in Memphis. His practice began with Dr. H. H. McRee in the Philpot Building before building his own office on Mena Street. The practice continued for 50 years before retiring due to illness. Rick served on the Mena Water Commission and the Union Bank Board for many years. He was a member of the Mena Lions Club, Elks Club, and the Mena Corvette Club. Rick considered his patients his friends. He was a Razorback fan, but the biggest fan of his family. He was married to Beth for 41 years and had 4 beautiful children: Kristi Wilson, Jonathon Carver, Dr. Adam Carver and London Pitchford. Lake Ouachita was his favorite place to go and he spent many years there with his parents and then his own family. Working on his home and yard, in his shop and keeping all the vehicles, tractors and mowers like new was his way of relaxing. Rick was known for being a kind, loving, generous gentleman. To know him was to love him, he will be missed.

Mr. Norman Manson Obituary

Mr. Norman Manson, age 84, of Mena passed away Sunday, April 19, 2020 at the Montgomery County Nursing Home in Mt. Ida, Arkansas.

Norman was born on August 27, 1935 in Wooster, Ohio. He served our country proudly in the United States Navy. Norman was also a member of the Elks for over 40 years. His greatest love was his family, he was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend to all that knew him, and he will be dearly missed by all.

He is survived by daughter: Jamie Pringle of Mena, Arkansas

Grandchildren: Michael, Christopher, Lindsay, and Kayla Pringle

Nature Brown Obituary

Nature Alexander Brown, born September 30, 2005 to Rodney and Paula Brown, peacefully passed away April 15, 2020 at the age of 14 years.

He was well liked by everyone that knew him and will be greatly missed. He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing. Also loved spending time at Papaw and Nana’s house.

He is survived by his parents Rodney and Paula Brown and brother Shane, Papaw and Nana, Bob and Regina Hostetler, Grandma Liz McQuerrie and Grandpa Bill McQuerrie, Uncle and Aunts Monte and Krystal, Sonya and Andy, Sissy and Steve, Melissa and Jeremiah, Jeremy and Jenny , Tasha and Rick. Cousins Bailey, Ridge, Hunter, Paige, Chance, Flint, Graham, Jackson, Dillon, Andrea, Dominic, Garret, Skylar, Clay, Caitlyn, Allie, Eli, Lucas, Titus, Leah, Trinity and Zoey and a host of relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by Aunt Jan, Uncles Danny and Doug and Great Grandparents Paul and Orpha Hostetler.

Nature was a blessing in our lives for 14 years and we have the assurance that he is safe in the arms of Jesus. Looking forward to a reunion in Heaven!

Graveside service will be Monday, April 20, 2020 at 4:30 p.m. at the Mt. Gilead Cemetery in Mena under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.

Visitation will be Sunday, April 19, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home Chapel. In accordance with the state mandates at this time, Beasley-Wood will allow no more than 10 people in the chapel at one time keeping the safe distance of 6 feet apart. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

Edward Jacob Vartanian Obituary

Edward Jacob Vartanian, age 71 of Cove, Arkansas passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2020 in Hot Springs.

He was born December 31, 1948 in Fresno, California to the late Edward Hagop Vartanian and Lidia Bell Jones Vartanian. Ed was an avid trout fisherman and loved spending his time on the water. He also enjoyed playing golf and was a collector of many things. Above all, Mr. Vartanian was a firm believer in our savior Jesus Christ and showed this through his singing and his worship. Ed was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife: Linda Vartanian of Cove, Arkansas

Daughter: Sara Aldridge and husband Dan of Cranford, New Jersey

Sisters: Linda Wales of Mt. Vernon, Washington and Jo Jones of Mt. Vernon, Washington

Six grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Vartanian is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter; Melissa Wallace, and 8 siblings.

Janice Elaine Pace Barrett Obituary

Janice Elaine Pace Barrett, age 76 of Vandervoort, Arkansas passed away Tuesday, April 14, 2020 in Mena.

She was born August 31, 1943 in Gladewater, Texas. Elaine was a graduate of Arlington High School in Arlington, Texas in 1961. She attended LPN School at Henderson County Jr. College in Athens, Texas and she completed her RN degree at El Centro College in Dallas, Texas. Elaine was united in marriage to Richard Barrett on June 21, 1963 in Dallas, Texas. They were married for 57 years. She worked many years in nursing in Athens, Texas and DeQueen, Arkansas where she was director of nursing for many years. She retired in 2003.

She is survived by husband: Richard Barrett of Vandervoort, Arkansas

Son: Richard Barrett, Jr. and wife Sonya of Burleson, Texas

Daughter: Rebecca Barrett of Edmond, Oklahoma

Brother: Jeff Pace of Killeen, Texas

Grandchildren: James, Anna, Ethan, and Stephen Barrett of Burleson, Texas

Sisters in Law: Velma Rans of Vandervoort, Arkansas, Bonnie Barrett of Vandervoort, Arkansas, and Edna Mae Barrett of Mena, Arkansas

Graveside services will be Saturday April 18, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the Witherspoon Cemetery in Vandervoort, Arkansas with Brother Donnie Jewell officiating. Services are under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.

Mr. Jerry Noel White Obituary

Mr. Jerry Noel White, age 67, of Mena, Arkansas passed away Monday, April 13, 2020 at his home, surrounded by his loved ones.

Jerry was born on June 25, 1952 in Mena, Arkansas to the late Wilbur and Juanita (Brown) White. Mr. White was a very hard worker and enjoyed bass fishing in his free time. He was very compassionate and loving man, every Friday night him and his wife would join each other for date night. Jerry was the type of person that anyone could depend on. He was a loving husband, father, “Grump”, son and friend to all; he will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 46 Years: Sandra White of Mena, Arkansas 

Daughters: Carla White of Mena, Arkansas, Andrea Taylor of Fort Smith, Arkansas, and Kayla Morgan of Mena, Arkansas

Eight grandchildren and 7even great-grandchildren

Brother: Neil White of Aiken, South Carolina.

Alice Lou Rena Bates Keener Obituary

Alice Lou Rena Bates Keener was born March 20, 1937, to be a caregiver, a nurse, a servant. Her parents named her Alice, which means noble and kind. Raised in humble conditions along the Caddo River, she was the middle child of 6 girls and 1 boy. When she was a young girl, her father died suddenly. Her older siblings had left home so her mother depended on her to help carry the load for her family. Alice graduated Norman High School in 1954, and went on to attend nursing school in Little Rock where she earned her RN license. Her first job was with Polk County Hospital then on to be an RN for many area doctors including Hefiner, Rogers, Austin, Stephens, Sessler and Mr. Ulmer.


On February 22, 1958 she married J.W. "Jay" Keener. The couple lived and raised their three children, Terry, Beth and BIlly in Potter, Arkansas.

Jay and Alice were well known on the dance floor as they loved to attend the Western Swing Events held in various counties each Saturday night. If you knew Alice, most likely you have something that she made as she kept her hands busy crocheting and knitting. Many hangers, house shoes, baby blankets, potholders and dish rags were made and she loved to share them with everyone.

Alice was a charter member of the Potter Volunteer Fire Department. She was a very dedicated worker, secretary for many years and responsible for organizing the annual Easter Bake Sale that was a huge success as well as the main fund raiser. She was an active member and church secretary of Bethel Baptist Church in Potter.

Alice is preceded in death by her husband, Jay, her parents, Walter Bates and Cora Bates Standrige, her siblings, Ruby Edwards, Lake Bates, Georgia Holman, and Shelba McMellon. Her brothers Alton Keener, Rush Keener and sister Daphane Heisch.


She is survived by her children and children, Terry and Rita Keener, Beth and Dewayne Scott and Billy and JoAnn Keener. Sisters Sharon Wiles and Cordellia Keener. Grand Children, Maggie and John Hendrix, Lacie and Justin Thomas, Christopher and Krista Womack, Michael and Gabby Clark and 12 great grandchildren. Sisters, Edna King and Connie Bates and a host of nieces and nephews who each loved her dearly.

Graveside service will be Wednesday, April 15, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the Rocky Cemetery with Brother Keith Rose officiating. Services are under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.

Visitation is general.

Pallbearers are Richard Walters, Tim McMellon, Steve McMellon, Victor Rowell, Christopher Womack and Michael Clark. Honorary pallbearers will be John Hendrix, Justin Thomas, John Wiles and Glen McLellan

Mrs. Melva Verna Hestand Kincaid Obituary

Mrs. Melva Verna Hestand Kincaid, age 83, of Mena passed away Friday, April 10, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loved ones.

Melva was born November 29, 1936 in O’Donnell, Texas, to the late Kelly Hestand and Effie Anders Hestand. Mrs. Kincaid was married to the love of her life Charles Robert Kincaid for 64 years until his passing in February 2015. Melva was a devoted member of Church of Christ and loved to oil paint. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, sister and friend to all that knew her. She will be dearly missed by all.

She is survived by sons: Robert Kincaid, David Kincaid, Mark Kincaid, Randy Kincaid, and John Kincaid

Arlene Francis Harris

April 14, 1947 - April 7, 2020

 

Arlene Francis Harris, age 72, of Mena, died Tuesday, April 7, 2020 at her home. She was born on Monday, April 14, 1947 to Ralph and Emma Margie Kelley Michael in Sheridan, Arkansas.

Arlene was a homemaker for much of her life and created a loving home for her children and grandchildren. Her family was always the most important thing in her life. She enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles and Country music. Arlene was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Harris; one son, Donnie Harris, one brother, Robert Michael; four sisters, Ruth Pye, O'dean Rawls, Dot Cruce, and Lois Wallace.

Arlene is survived by two sons and daughter law, Danny and Jana Harris of Mena, and Ronald Harris of Dallas, Texas; one brother, Carroll Michael of Sheridan; three sisters, Alma Carol of Lowell, Doris McCombs, and Helen Caplinger of Louisiana; five grandchildren, Kevin Harris and wife Katy of North Little Rock, Kaycee Harris of Mena, Kaydi Ricketts and husband Brian of Minot, North Dakota, Hannah Harris of Benton, and Kyle Harris of Dallas, Texas; two great grandchildren, Tristen Ricketts and Cooper Ricketts; several nephews and nieces and a host of other relatives and friends.
