Mr. Donald Gene Vaught, age 48, passed away on Thursday, December 30, 2021, in Smithville, Oklahoma. He was born April 27, 1973, in Dequeen, Arkansas, to Thomas Gail and Gracie DoyLene Parnell Vaught.

Mr. Vaught was an avid sports fan, he loved to attend basketball, baseball, and softball games with family and friends. He also enjoyed attending rodeos, cow sales, and browsing Facebook in his spare time.

Mr. Donald Vaught is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Charlie and Nettie Vaught, and by his maternal grandfather, Omer Parnell.
 
He is survived by his father, Thomas Vaught; mother, Gracie Vaught; brothers, Clifton Vaught, Brian Vaught and wife Tina; nephews, Cory Vaught and wife Jessica, Dillon Vaught and Sierra; nieces, Megan Woods and husband Jody, Lori Vaught; 4 great-nephews, 4 great-nieces; and by his grandmother, Gracie Parnell; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Services for Mr. Vaught will be held Saturday, January 1, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at the Watson Cemetery in Watson, Oklahoma.
 
Brother Ed Rogers will officiate, under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.

Robert Edward Gray Obituary

Mr. Robert Edward Gray, age 84, passed away Tuesday, December 28, 2021, in Mena, Arkansas. He was born May 27, 1937, to the late, Albert H. and Ribelle Jay Brocato Gray.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Albert H. and Ribelle Jay Brocato Gray, and by his brothers, Albert H. Gray Jr., Joseph C. Gray, and Frederick F. Gray.

He is survived by his daughter, Bobbi Patricia Castro; grandchildren, Kaydince D. Gray, Isaac R. Gray, and Christian J. Gray; sisters, Pat Greene, and Joan A. Gray; and by his nephew, Dewayne Seals and wife Heather.

Services for Mr. Gray are pending. Cremation services are entrusted to Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.

William Paul Taylor Jr. Obituary

William Paul Taylor Jr., age 80, of Mena, Arkansas, died Friday, December 3, 2021 at his home. He was born Saturday, December 7, 1940 to William Paul and Miriam Bonham Edmondson Taylor in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Bill as he was known was a member of the Pulaski Heights Presbyterian Church in Little Rock, Arkansas for many years. Bill worked many years in the heating and air industry as a tech and designer. He loved cars and enjoyed building and racing cars and was a master mechanic. He had a interest in traveling. Bill was a loving brother, uncle and friend and will be missed by all who knew him

Preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include one brother and sister in law, Winston and Kristen Taylor of Russellville, Arkansas; one sister, Kathy Wewers of Little Rock, Arkansas; several nieces and nephews, Megan and Andrew Beard of Little Rock, Arkansas, Brooke and Matthew Glover of Little Rock, Arkansas, Matthew and Sara Wewers of North Carolina, Meredith Wewers of Little Rock, Arkansas; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A graveside service will be held at a later date at the Pinecrest Cemetery in Benton. Cremation service are entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena, Arkansas.

Albert "Little John" Roy Johnson Obituary

Albert “Little John” Roy Johnson, age 70, passed away Sunday, December 26, 2021, in Texarkanna, Texas. He was born March 13, 1951, in Odessa, Texas to the late Carl Albert and Gladys Virginia Robertson Johnson.

Mr. Johnson was a farmer and truck driver by profession and enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids; he loved to see his kids and grandkids play sports and he was a very proud cattle farmer. He was also an avid outdoorsman with a love for fishing and hunting. He loved his friends and family deeply.

Little John is preceded in death by his parents, Carl Albert and Gladys Virginia Robertson Johnson; a daughter, Laura Leann Johnson; brother, Gary Myers; sister, Murline Bethel and husband Jimmy; son-in-law, James Wise; brother-in-law, Johnnie Duckett; sister-in-law, Mitzi Duckett; father-in-law, Jim Ed Duckett; mother-in-law, Gladys Duckett.

Vicki Diane Lyles, age 64, passed away Sunday, December 26, 2021, in Mena, Arkansas. She was born September 7, 1957, in Mena, Arkansas to Allie Odell and Iva Leah Standridge Egger.

Ms. Lyles was a homemaker and an avid reader who enjoyed books of all kinds.

She is preceded in death by her father, Odell Egger, her mother, Iva Leah Standridge Egger; daughter, Lindsey Miller; and by her sister Terri Egger.
 
She is survived by her children, Brandi Whisler and husband D.J. of Kansas, and Carrie Rand of Nashville, Arkansas; brother, Steve Egger (Cindy); as well as several grandchildren.

Services for Ms. Lyles will be held Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. in Pinecrest Memorial Park in Mena, Arkansas. Brother Al Hadaway will be officiating, under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.

Shirley Elaine Graves, age 92, of Watson, Oklahoma passed away Friday, December 24, 2021, in Mena.

She was born July 15, 1929, in Ashland, Nebraska to James Monroe Young and Gertrude Wollen Young. Shirley was a homemaker and nurse’s aide by profession. She was an artist and she enjoyed music and dancing. Shirley was a member of Christ’s Church in Cove where she was song leader. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend.

She is survived by her sons, Dennis Lee Scott, Jim David Scott and life partner Fabian Robles, Daniel Scott and wife Jennifer, Timothy Scott and wife Rosita; daughters, Kathy Robertson, Pam Turman, Nancy Rhodes and husband Buster; 21 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; sister, Patricia Lehl and a host of other family and friends.
 
She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Gertrude Young; son, Michael Monroe Scott; first husband, Lloyd Scott; second husband, Walter Graves; sister, Verna Webb; brothers, Darrell Young and Harold Young.

Graveside service will be Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Cove, Arkansas with Larry Parton officiating. Services are under the direction of the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.

Michael Joseph Ellison Obituary

Michael Joseph Ellison, age 52, passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2021, in Mena, Arkansas. He was born June 1, 1969, in Mena, Arkansas to L.G. and Madelyn Joy (Hughen) Ellison.


Michael was very artistic; he loved to draw and collect comic books. He loved all kinds of sports and enjoyed collecting baseball cards. Some of his favorite teams were the Dallas Cowboys and the Golden State Warriors.


Michael is survived by his parents, L. G. and Joy Ellison, and by his brothers, Larry Ellison and Rick Ellison and wife Karen.


Services for Michael will be held Monday, December 27, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. in Pinecrest Memorial Park, with Brother Dana Kinsey officiating, under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.

Ellarene Lunsford Obituary

Ellarene Lunsford, age 93, of Mena, Arkansas died Monday, December 20, 2021 at The Green House Cottages of Homewood in Mena. She was born on Thursday, March 8, 1928 to Samuel Slater and Mary (Wagner) Slater in Waldron, Arkansas.

Ellarene was a lady of Faith. She attended the Church of God in Mena. Ellarene liked to keep a positive outlook on life and had a great sense of humor. She was a hard worker. Ellarene worked at a shirt and pant factory as well as US Motors before purchasing a farm with her husband where she then made her living as a poultry and livestock farmer. Ellarene loved to spend time with her family. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren brought her so much joy. Ellarene loved children so much that she even volunteered as a Foster Grandparent for the local Elementary children. In her free time she enjoyed playing bingo and traveling Arkansas. One of her favorite places to go was Branson. Ellarene was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, sister, and a friend and will be missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband Wayne Lunsford; six brothers, Arthur Slater, Bud Slater, Raymond Slater, Charlie Slater, Cliff Slater, Roy Slater, and two infant brothers; her sister Mildred Lamarr and two infant sisters.

Ellarene is survived by; two daughters and son in laws, Norma Lott and husband Johnny of Mena and June Wiles and husband Dean of Mena; six grandchildren, Clint Wiles, Clay Wiles, Chris Wiles, Justin Pearce, Jessica Pearce, and Jackson Lott; seven great grandchildren, Kyntlie, Jake, Hayden, Rylee, Case, Owen and Colt; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at 2:00 PM at the Lamb Cemetery in Waldron, Arkansas. Arrangements are entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena, Arkansas.

Pallbearers are Clint Wiles, Clay Wiles, Chris Wiles, Justin Pearce, Jake Wiles, Case Wiles, Hayden Wiles and Jackson Lott.

Juanita L. Shipman Obituary

Juanita L. Shipman, age 79, of Mena, Arkansas passed away Friday, December 17, 2021.

Juanita was a beautiful Christian soul who loved the Lord. She attended Bethel Baptist Church where she was honored to be the pastor’s wife. She enjoyed singing in the choir and teaching Sunday School to share the message of salvation. She had a giving spirit and generous heart.

Juanita made many cherished, lasting friendships while working at Blue Cross and Blue Shield. She retired after almost 30 years.

Juanita is survived by her loving husband of 32 years, George Shipman; son Jeff Vaughn and his wife Patty; daughter Janice Vaughn-Sanchez and her husband Daniel; brothers John and Robert Jacobsen; sister Marion Knight; grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

In Lieu of Flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Arkansas Baptist Children’s Home in her memory at arkansasfamilies.org.

Geraldine Marie Bailey Obituary

Geraldine Bailey, age 70, of Acorn, Arkansas died Thursday, December 16, 2021 at CHI St. Vincent Hospital in Hot Springs, Arkansas. She was born on Wednesday, December 27, 1950 to Nelson Trahan and Rosalie L. Barthelemy in Golden Meadow, Lafourche Parish, Louisiana.

Geraldine was raised on Grand Isle, Louisiana and graduated from Grand Isle High School in 1968. She graduated from bookkeeping school in 1971. She was married to Preston Granger in 1969 and later divorced. She was married to Tex Perez in 1978 and later divorced. She was married to Phil Bailey in 1990 and he survives of the home.

She retired with her husband in 2005 and moved to Mena, Arkansas.

She is preceded in death by her parents; and her sister, Carolyn.

Geraldine is survived by her husband of the home, her daughter Katrina Darden and husband Robie of Charenten, Louisiana; two step sons, Byron Bailey of California and Loren Bailey of Nashville, Tennessee; one grand daughter, Erica Perez; and two great grand sons, Avery and Wyatt; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the DAV, Disabled American Veterans.

Cremation has taken place and no service is planned at this time. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena, Arkansas.

Keith Haines Roberts Obituary

Mr. Keith Haines Roberts, 52, of Cove, Arkansas passed away Thursday, December 16, 2021 in Cove.

He was born September 20, 1969 in Folsom, California to John and Celia (Munson) Roberts. He was married to DeAnne House and was a mechanic by profession as well as being a jack of all trades. Keith loved riding his Harley and enjoyed fishing with friends. He occasionally grew a garden and loved to share his bounty of produce with his family. He was especially generous and was always ready to help those in need. He was a natural landscaper of the forest, cleaning fence rows and keeping it beautiful. His biggest passion was to teach and pass on his knowledge of life to his boys and he had a special place in his heart for Kyle and Clayton. He was a loving husband, son, father and a friend and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by, his wife, DeAnne Roberts, his parents, John and Celia Roberts and his sons, Pack Roberts and Garrett Barton. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Elmer Roberts and Ethie Ham Roberts and his maternal grandparents, Vernon and Millie Munson.

Jimmy "Jim" Rogers Massey

Jimmy “Jim” Rogers Massey, age 86, passed away December 15, 2021, in Hatfield, Arkansas. He was born August 16, 1935, in Searcy, Arkansas to the late Claude and Nola Mae (Wilkerson) Massey. 


Mr. Massey worked for the General Motor company for 52 years and served in the United States Army as a Military Police officer. During his deployment he went to Ft. Dix and then to Japan. Mr. Massey was a private man. 


He is survived by his sister, Mary Knott, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. 


He is preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Nola Mae (Wilkerson) Massey; brothers, Howard Massey and Raymond Massey; sisters, Katherine May, Bridgett Massey, Joan Long, and Ann Brewer. 


Graveside funeral Services for Mr. Massey will be held Friday, December 17, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at Six Mile Cemetery in Hatfield, Arkansas. Services under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.

Norma Dene Stricklin Obituary

Mrs. Norma Stricklin, age 86, passed away Tuesday, December 14, 2021, in Hot Springs, Arkansas. She was born October 24, 1935, in Hatfield, Arkansas to the late King Henry Miller and the late Iva Jewell Brewer Miller. 


Norma, an awarded businesswoman, was the owner and co-founder of Rose Aircraft in Mena, Arkansas. She was a very devoted member of the Dallas Avenue Baptist Church, where she taught special needs Sunday school, sang in the choir, and went on many mission trips. She loved camping, traveling, bowling, and gardening. Norma was very family oriented and adored her family greatly. She especially loved spending time with and teaching her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren about their family history. 


Norma is preceded in death by her parents, and her husbands, Jack Rose, Bob Fields, and Charles Stricklin; infant son, Steven Ray Rose; brother, Donald Wayne Miller; sisters, Wanda Stricklin McDaniel, Billie McDaniel, Verna Mae Snitker Stricklin; and grand daughter, Michelle Lunsford. 


She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Sloan and husband Doug; sons, Keith Rose and wife Lisa, Kent Rose and wife Julie, Janet Shreve and husband Kelly; grandchildren, Jennifer Brewer and husband Daniel, Jaclyn Rose, Nera Polkinghorn and husband Adam, Stephanie Laney and husband John Mark, Brittany Rose, Nathan Sloan and wife Jessica, Jonathan Rose and wife Sierra, Chris Rose, Nikki Sloan, Adrienne Wallace and husband Taylor, Nick Rose, Sarah Jo Rose, Marie Fields-Chism and husband Jason, James Lunsford, Taylor Lunsford and wife Alyssa, Dalton Lunsford, and Angel Lunsford. Interment will follow at the Six Mile Cemetery in Hatfield, Arkansas. Brother Roy Conatser will be officiating, under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. 


Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, December 16, 2021, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Mr. William Everrett Bowen, Jr., age 68, passed away Monday, December 13, 2021, in Smithville, Oklahoma. He was born September 28, 1953, in Midland, Texas to the late William Elijah and Clair Jones Bowen.

Mr. Bowen was an Iron Worker by profession, and enjoyed, drawing, hunting, fishing, being outdoors, and gardening. He was a devoted member of the Octavia Baptist Church. He loved spending time with his friends and family.

William is preceded in death by his parents; William Elijah and Clair Jones Bowen; his former wife, Susan Bowen; and brother, Jerry “Squirrel” Bowen.

He is survived by his wife, M.J Bowen; sons, Shane Bowen and wife Jean, Justin Bowen and wife Jennifer, Dale Gertiser, and Matthew Gertiser; daughters, C.J. Bowen, Denette Taylor and husband James, and Melanie Jewell; grandchildren, Jake, Erika, Hunter, Tanner ”Bitty”, Wyatt, Thomas, Shayna, Briar, Zack, Jessica, Janelle, Jamie, and Jamaica; 13 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of other family members, also many friends because Willie never met a stranger.

Mr. Grady Lowell Sherwood, age 48, passed away Monday, December 13, 2021, in Ashdown, Arkansas. He was born May 23, 1973, to Grady Kelton Sherwood and Barbara Dean (Manasco) Miller, in Dequeen, Arkansas. 

Mr. Sherwood was a truck driver by profession and was a regular country boy. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking and smoking food. He enjoyed life and loved having fun, especially with his children, whom he loved very much. 

Grady is preceded in death by his father, Grady Kelton Sherwood; sister, Paula Sherwood; Paternal grandparents, Charles and Bessie Sherwood; maternal grandparents, Dewel and Lulabelle Manasco. 


He is survived by his mother, Barbara Miller; sons, Joseph Randall and wife Mariana, Seth Matthew Sherwood, and Jacob Lowell Sherwood; daughter, Leigha Harp and husband Dawson; one grandchild, on the way; brothers, Wayne Sherwood and wife Monica, Farolyn Sherwood and wife Jonnie; sisters, Pam Brown and husband Bob, Michelle Broach and husband Chad, Denice Jewell and husband Tommy; as a well as a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and other family and friends to numerous to mention. 


Graveside services for Mr. Sherwood will be held Sunday, December 19, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Manasco Cemetery in Umpire, Arkansas. Brother Don Youngblood will be officiating, under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. Scheduled visitation will be held Friday evening, December 17, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. 


Pallbearers are Seth Sherwood, Joseph Randall, Jacob Sherwood, Harrell Sherwood, Farolyn Sherwood, and Lawton Sherwood.

Shelly Gail Cassity Obituary

Shelly Gail Cassity, age 46, of Mena, Arkansas died Saturday, December 4, 2021 at her home. She was born on Monday, June 23, 1975 to Loyd Cassity and Nancy Sawyer in Fort Worth, Texas.

Shelly was a gypsy soul that had a bubbly loving personality. She was a best friend to everyone. Shelly had a loud outgoing energy that filled a room and brought people together. She was proud of getting her cosmetology license, her instructors license, as well as her time as a mail carrier for the Post Office. Shelly most enjoyed hiking and being on the beach. She loved music of all kinds, motorcycles, cooking, and being with loved ones. Her family and friends were her top priority and she cherished every moment with them. She adored her grandchildren who especially brought her immense joy. Shelly was a loving daughter, mom, nana, sister, aunt and friend and will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know her.

She is preceded in death by her father; and one sister, Janet Cassity.

Shelly is survived by her son, Dare Garrison of Mena; her daughter, Olivia Harvey of Mena; her mother, Nancy Sawyer of Mena; two brothers, Andy Currie of Fort Worth, Texas, and David Cassity of Fort Worth, Texas; two sisters and brothers in law, Kelly and Jason Boren of Fort Smith, and Dee and Jay Warren of Arlington, Texas; two grandchildren, Aviea Daniels and Kade Daniels of Mena; several nephews and nieces and a host of other relatives and friends.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2021 from 1:00 - 3:00 PM at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena, Arkansas. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home.

Vernon Lane Hampton Obituary

Vernon Lane Hampton, age 55, of Clarksville, Arkansas died Friday, December 3, 2021. He was born on Sunday, March 6, 1966 to Fredrick and Patti Hampton in Mena, Arkansas.

Vernon was a good Christian man with a generous spirit. He was an incredibly hard worker, and had a passion for flying and fixing just about anything. Vernon was very intelligent and had a knack for finding solutions to any problem. He was dedicated to his work, and he loved every minute of it. Vernon took great pride in the aviation business he had built and truly loved what he did. He was a jack of all trades and always had multiple projects he was working on at any given time. Vernon was filled with compassion and could always be found helping others in need. He liked cars, planes, boats, motorcycles and could fix any of them. Vernon loved his children, family, and friends and showed that love through endless jokes and laughter. Vernon was a loving son, father, grandfather, uncle and friend and will be missed by all who knew him.

Vernon is survived by his father, Fred Hampton of Mena, mother, Patti Hampton of Smithville, Oklahoma, and step-mother Cynde Hampton; one son and daughter in law, Aaron and Katherine Hampton of Virginia; two daughters and son in law, Angela and Jordan Reece Jones of Fort Smith, and Katlyn Bryant of Nashville, Tennessee; one brother, Mark Hampton of Longview, Texas; three sisters and brothers in law, Vickie and Larry Smith of Oklahoma, Leslie and Matt Dodd of Oklahoma, Melissa and Brett Ham of Mena; two grandchildren, Kensley Jones and one granddaughter on the way; several nephews and nieces and a host of other family and friends.

A funeral service will be held Friday, December 10, 2021 at 10:30 AM at The Crossing Church in Mena with Brother Victor Rowell officiating. Interment will follow at the Pinecrest Memorial Gardens in Mena under the direction of Bowser Family Funeral Home. A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 9, 2021 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena.

Wendy Ellen Jones Obituary

Mrs. Wendy Ellen Jones, age 54, passed away Sunday, December 5, 2021. She was born April 5, 1967, in Key west, Florida to Walter William Davidson and Barbara Leona (Utley) McGrath.

Mrs. Jones was a homemaker by profession. She enjoyed crocheting and was known as a movie buff. Wendy never met a stranger and considered all to be her family. She constantly took in those who were in need. But above all else, she dearly loved her daughters and grandchildren.

Mrs. Jones is preceded in death by her father-in-law, Doug Jones, maternal grandparents, and her paternal grandparents. She is survived by her loving husband, John Paul Jones; daughters, Amanda Lynne Chittenden and husband Sam, and Katherine Marilee Jones and fiancé, Jhonatan Teodoro Mendez; grandchildren, Aiden Chittenden, Kristopher Teodoro, and Jaylyn Teodoro; brothers, Keith Davidson, and Donald Davidson; stepfather, Dan McGrath; mother-in-law, Patricia Jones, and bonus mother-in-law, Dorothy Jones.

Ms. Brenda Tate, age 79, passed away Thursday, December 2, 2021, in Mena, Arkansas. She was born December 29, 1941, to the late Richard C. and Helen McLafferty Barham.

Ms. Tate was a teacher by profession who enjoyed crosswords and birdwatching. She loved crafting and hanging out with her grandkids, her garden, and loved rooting for the Denver Broncos and the Razorbacks. Woo Pig Sooie!

Brenda is preceded in death by her parents, Richard C. and Helen McLafferty Barham. She is survived by her daughter, Tracy Tate Allphin; grand-daughter, Kayla Pullen and husband Jeff; great-grand-daughters, Hailee Pullen and Tatelynn Pullen; sisters, Becky Crawford and husband John, and Barbara Beaver and husband Eric; as well as numerous other family members and friends.
