Katelyn Wells Obituary

Katelyn Wells passed away Monday night, October 24th, at her home in Springdale, AR. She was only 26 but lived a life full of unique experiences in that short time. Katelyn was born on February 12, 1996 in Pazardzhik, Bulgaria. She arrived in the U.S. with her new parents, Brian and Ronda, on April 5, 1998.

One of Katelyn’s pre-eminent skills was meeting people and making friends, even if they spoke different languages or were different ages. A warm heart, a sharp sense of humor, and the ability to be both silly and compassionate endeared her to most everyone she met.

Katelyn loved both sports and the outdoors. To those who think they are camping when spending the night in a trailer or RV, Katelyn would vehemently disagree with you. She ran her first 5k race at 8 years old, completed a half-marathon in junior high, and would go on to compete in cross-country at the collegiate level. She wasn’t born a Razorback fan, but remedied that situation as quickly as possible.

An experienced traveler despite her age, she visited 15 foreign countries (Italy was her favorite), much of the U.S. (including Hawaii twice), and countless national parks (none could touch “The” Yosemite). She was always ready for adventure, whether it was biking down Pikes Peak as a 9 year old, flying alone across the country at 10 to visit friends and family, or moving far away to a big city for college.

Katelyn’s faith was an essential part of her life. She was quick to share an encouraging verse or comforting worship song with friends and family in need of them. The strength of her faith and reliance on the Lord during her battle with CRPS was an inspiration and encouragement to those around her.

Katelyn is a graduate of Mena High School and Trinity International University in Deerfield, IL where she earned a degree in Sports and Wellness Management in 2018. She is survived by her parents, Brian and Ronda Wells; grandparents, Bill and Patsy Wells and Sharon Carter; Aunts and Uncle, Carla Wells and Jo Lynn and Matt Gergeni; and more-sister-than-cousin cousins Kourtney Gergeni, Makayla (Gergeni) Cranford, and Hannah (Gergeni) Wilson; along with her other no-less-fabulous cousins Brandon Baker and Ashton Baker.

A memorial service will be held October 31, 2022 at 10 a.m. at the Beasley Wood Funeral Home in Mena, AR. Family members and close friends are invited to Brian and Ronda’s house after the service for food, fellowship, and celebration of Katelyn.
