Rodger Martin Nystrom, age 86, of Mena, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at the Mena Regional Health System in Mena. He was born on Saturday, October 3, 1936 to Joseph and Louvisa Wheeler Nystrom in Des Moines, Iowa. Rodger was a very sweet, meticulous and highly ethical man. If he loved you, it was known. He was strong willed, very independent and loved by many. Rodger served proudly in the United States Army. He really enjoyed fishing, gardening, and maintaining his property to his standards. Rodger was a member of the Catholic Church after converting in the 1960's. He was known to be a very welcoming and wonderful neighbor, most of which became his close friends. He loved to watch football and auto racing and would watch anytime they were on. Rodger was a loving father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend and will be missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sarah "Sally" Nystrom; six brothers and sisters, Neoma Mueller, Lowell "Bud" Nystrom, Mary Lou Alsin, Vera Baker, Verna Nystrom, and Darwin Nystrom.

Rodger is survived by three sons, Joseph Nystrom of Watauga, Texas, R.D. Nystrom of Okmulgee, Oklahoma and Dean Nystrom of Cabot, Arkansas; one daughter, Sandra Elfo of Frendale, Washington; one brother, Joseph Dale Nystrom of San Francisco, California; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Victoria Lee Garrett, age 76, of Mena, died Monday, November 22, 2022 at the Bear Creek Healthcare in De Queen, Arkansas. She was born on Friday, February 6, 1946 to Walter Tollenaer and Ellen Lerdall Tollenaer in Rock Island, Illinois. 

Victoria was a woman of faith who always let God guide her life. She was unbelievably smart, acing all tests and graduating with three different associate degrees with honors. Victoria met her husband, William, in 1982 in Kansas and had a wonderfully happy marriage for 39 years. She always enjoyed reading fiction novels as well as history. Victoria loved to try new things with her husband, fishing, raising horses, shooting, water skiing and a lot of other fun things she didn't get to experience in her youth. She was naturally talented and picked up just about anything she tried. Victoria had a huge collection of miniature Christmas houses. Her family gave her strength and she provided them all with unending love and a happy home. Victoria was a loving wife, sister, aunt and friend and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents; two grandsons, Joshua and Matthew; and one son, Brett Bannon. Victoria is survived by her loving husband of 39 years, William Ronald Garrett of Mena; one son, Robert Dean Bannon of Wichita, Kansas; one daughter and son in law, Lynne Ellen and Bill Montana of Wilburton, Oklahoma; two sisters, Lori Woldon of Neodesha, Kansas and Chris Romoser of Illinois; grandchildren, Michael David, Victoria and husband, Tim, Carrie, Jennifer, and Dena; six great grandchildren; several nephews and nieces and a host of other relatives and friends.

Kimberly McKenzie, age 45, of Grannis, died Sunday, November 20, 2022 at the CHI St. Vincent Hospital in Hot Springs, Arkansas. She was born on Friday, October 7, 1977 to Milton Eugene and Alice Rose McKenzie in De Queen, Arkansas.

Kim was a very happy girl, she was very outgoing and had such a bubbly attitude that made everyone around her smile. She really enjoyed geocaching, diamond painting, and loved the outdoors, watching deer and other wildlife or sitting at the lake. Kim liked pretty much all music, and enjoyed a good cheeseburger and Dr. Pepper. Her family was always there for her and she loved them all dearly. Kim’s last message to her friends and family was, “She’d see them on the flip side.” Kim was a loving daughter, sister, aunt and friend and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Beth Merlene Ward, age 90, of Mena, died Saturday, November 19, 2022 at her home with her son by her side. She was born on Saturday, April 30, 1932 to Robert Urie McClenahan and Edna Frances Clark in Morganville, Kansas.

Beth was very passionate and could be very stubborn, but ultimately she had a loving and compassionate heart. She was a registered nurse, and she spent her entire life easing the burden of others in any way she could, both in work and in life. Beth made a difference in countless lives, whether a stranger or a friend, her heart was with anyone in pain. She loved her son with her whole being and his happiness was her top priority. Her compassion and caring spirit was beautiful to witness, and served as a role model to all around her.

Beth was a loving mother, sister, aunt and friend and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Stewart Ward; one brother, Francis McClenahan; and one sister, Bonnie Hannan.

Cindy Lynn Hill, age 43, of Mena, died Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at the Mena Regional Health System. She was born on Wednesday, August 29, 1979 to James Darrel McMellon and Reba Faye McMellon Stanfield in Mena, Arkansas.

Cindy was outgoing and stubborn, but very soft hearted and never met a stranger. She enjoyed being outdoors and always had fun at the creek or in the water. She loved her dogs, Sophie, Oreo, Pebbles, and Neighbor Kid. Cindy liked fishing, but mostly as an excuse to get in the water. She also liked house plants, and would often replace them, as she didn't have the greenest thumb. Cindy made her friends and family laugh and was never afraid to speak her mind. Cindy was a loving companion, sister, aunt and friend and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Mina Anderle.

Mr. Verbie D. Hamm, age 72, passed away Wednesday, November 16, 2022, in Cove, Arkansas. He was born October 19, 1950, in Ft. Worth, Texas, to the late Mr. Dewey Adison Hamm and Mrs. Betty Lucille (Snoddy) Hamm.

Mr. Hamm was a proud veteran of the Vietnam War. While stationed in Germany, he met his wife, Edith. They were married February 12, 1972, at Bethel Baptist Church in New Potter, Arkansas. Verbie was hard-working and good hearted. He tried to help everyone. He was known as his family’s hero.

Mr. Hamm is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Dewey Adison Hamm and Mrs. Betty Lucille (Snoddy) Hamm; brother, Gary Kimbrough, and by his sister, Geraldine Carter. LaVerta Jane Crowder Meaney entered this life on May 2, 1947, in San Antonio, Texas. She was the daughter of James L. Crowder Sr., and Lola (Myers) Crowder, both deceased.

In 1961, the family moved to Edmond, Oklahoma where she continued her public-school education. Jane excelled in all things academic and was valedictorian in high school. She graduated from Abilene Christian College, summa cum laude. She worked for Tenneco Chemicals and Bell Telephone Laboratories in New Jersey before returning to Texas and enrolling in the University of Texas at San Antonio Medical School. Upon graduation she began her career in anesthesiology. Dr. Crowder worked in Dallas, Denton, Houston, and Huntsville, Texas and she especially enjoyed her time with locum tenens which enabled her to see other parts of the country. She loved traveling with anyone and visited more than 70 countries. She also loved the multiplicity of pets and playing and watching tennis and college football. As a pilot of her own Mooney airplane, she logged more that 4, 500.00 hours and gladly ferried friends and animals across the United States to wherever they needed to be.

She married William M. Meaney in 1980 and they had 42 years of marriage. She is survived by her husband in Mena, Arkansas; her brother, James L. Crowder, Jr. of Edmond, Oklahoma and numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Hoyett Ray Moore, age 84, passed away on Monday, November 14, 2022 at his home in Smithville, Oklahoma. He was born on Thursday, October 27, 1938 to Culman David Moore and Juanita Praytor in Ben Wheeler, Texas.

Hoyett attended the First Baptist Church in Cove, and was very active in working with the youth and doing whatever he could for his church family. Every Sunday he would bring bubble gum to give out to all the youth at church. He served proudly in the United States Navy. Hoyett later became District Chief of the Shreveport Fire Department and retired after 29 years of dedicated service. He had a saying for everything, "Yo" often heard by family and friends. He loved to cut up and joke and make people laugh. Hoyett was a very strong man, dedicated hard worker and liked to keep busy outdoors. He enjoyed making Martin houses out of the gourds he grew. Hoyett liked to shoot, especially coon hunting, and really liked to go fishing anytime he could. He really enjoyed doing things with family, going camping, and just about anything that gave him quality time with them. Hoyett was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and his step mother, Connie "Mama" Moore. Hoyett is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary Moore of Smithville, Oklahoma; one son, Arthur Moore and Suzanne of Lindale, Texas; one daughter and son in law, Tanya and Ron Ladd of Smithville, Oklahoma; one brother, David Moore of Longview, Texas; two sisters, Bonnie Moore of Ben Wheeler, Texas, Billie Gail Brown of Hughes Springs, Texas; four grandchildren, Tara Walker, Todd Ladd, Tommy Ladd, and Dash Moore; great grandchildren, Mason Walker, Madison Walker, Maverick Walker, Seth Ladd, Darby Brown, and Kiedis Moore; several nephews and nieces and a host of other family and friends.

Mary Turner, age 86, of Cove, Arkansas passed away on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at her home surrounded by family. She was born on Saturday, September 19, 1936 to Willie and Bonnie Little Anglin in Rich Mountain, Arkansas.

Mary was very funny, always telling jokes and making people laugh. Mary loved her family and Jesus very much. She really enjoyed fishing on the river as well as hiking in the woods. Mary enjoyed traveling, Hawaii was a favorite of hers that she always talked about. She got to see many different places while serving proudly in the United States Air Force. After the military she became a registered nurse and it was definitely her calling. She was stationed at West Palm Beach, Florida and loved the environment. She took great pride in being a good and compassionate nurse, always doing her best to care for people. She retired from Mena Regional Health System after many years of being an Intensive Care Nurse. Mary was always taking pictures and really loved to be out in nature, watching birds and wildlife. She cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren and loved them with all her heart. Mary was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Bobby Ralph Turner; three brothers, Martin Anglin, Marvin Lee Anglin, and Benny Anglin; and two sisters, Nancy Evelyn Joplin and Samanthia Evans. Linda Faye Lebow, age 73, of Mena, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at her home.

She was born in Talihina, Oklahoma on February 13, 1949 to Lee and Clara Catherine Henry, who both preceded her in death, as well as her son, Daniel Ray Lebow and her brothers and sisters.

Her love of family was never in doubt and her love of and faith in her God, Jehovah was without question. She loved cooking and quilting, however her every thought was to help others draw close to God.

She is survived by her husband, Willie; son Joseph; daughters, Karen, Sarah, and Mercedes; grandchildren, Rachael, Russell, Levi and Kyle; sister Minnie Reed; brothers Hershel and Kenny Henry as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

Dorothy Marie Neff, age 94, of Hatfield, Arkansas passed away on Wednesday, November 9, 2022 at the CHI St. Vincent Hospital in Hot Springs, Arkansas. She was born on Monday, January 30, 1928 to Martin John Storm and Elsie Gertrude Glaser Storm in South Bend, Indiana.

Dorothy was very outgoing, she was everyone's grandma. She was always on the go, and kept busy her entire life. Dorothy loved to travel and visited Cancun and Jamaica among many other beautiful places. She was simply a wonderful person to be around and people of all ages were drawn to her beautiful spirit. Dorothy could always be found working in her yard and keeping it up to her standards. She really enjoyed listening to Ray Price, her favorite song of his being Stardust. Dorothy liked to do puzzles, her favorite flower was a Shasta Daisy and her favorite hymn was Oh What a Savior. Dorothy was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend and will be missed by all who knew her. A special thank you to Amy, Darryn, Sally and Tanya for all of their help and kindness.

Nicholas Kendall Strother, age 59 of Vandervoort passed from this earth on November 7, 2022 in Mena, Arkansas. Born the son of James Roland and Bonnie Virginia Boles Strother on August 17, 1963 in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.

He was a truck driver, having spent the last 17 years employed by Tyson Foods, the last 8 as the Dequeen Truck Shop Manager. He farmed his whole life, from growing up soybean farming to later being a contract hen grower for Tyson. An avid outdoorsman, Nick loved hunting and fishing, especially with his boys. He had a passion for people and daily looked for opportunities to help others, while serving in many volunteer roles including the Cossatot River School Board.

A devoted follower of Christ, he was a member of Vandervoort First Baptist where he served as a deacon. Above all Nick Strother was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his in-laws, John Watkins and Janell Waldrop Watkins.

Donna Hankins, age 71, of Mena, Arkansas passed away on Tuesday, November 8, 2022 at the CHI St. Vincent Hospital in Hot Springs, Arkansas. She was born on Saturday, December 16, 1950 to Robert Ervin Martin and Margaret Roppolo Martin in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

Donna was a passionate woman with a shining personality. She was a very outgoing and caring person, she always had time to talk and get to know people. Donna loved taking care of people, everyone left her house with their stomach full and feeling better about life. She often would feed any homeless or help anyone that was down on their luck. Donna had a gift of love and compassion for everyone she met and it was impossible not to feel incredibly lucky to know her. Donna's love was never ending for everyone, but especially her family and friends. She cherished every laugh, phone call, hug and second spent with her beautiful family. Donna was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend and will be missed by all who knew her. Her family wishes to express their sincere appreciation and gratitude to the ICU staff at CHI St. Vincent Hospital for their loving and compassionate care they gave to Donna and the whole family.

Pat was a devout Christian woman.

Endless hours were also spent studying her families geneology histories... (Before the internet!) Making many great friends & acquaintances in the process. She was a wonderful cook, with skills learned early from Mom Mildred and Grandmothers Poca & Ovie.

She was preceded in death by her husband Gary Allen Barrett, her mother, Mildred Beatrice Morris Ferguson, father, Fred F. Ferguson, sister, Betty Beard Wagner, brother, Steven Ferguson, sister, Ellen Ferguson Swycaffer, her beloved grandparents, Boss & Pocahontas (Standridge) Morris, Aaron & Ova (Lawrence) Ferguson, sweet mother-in-law Birdie (McKinzie) Barrett, and many other treasured family members.

We are forever grateful for the dedicated staff & caregivers at Homewood cottages, especially cottage #4.

Much appreciation to Brother James & Brother Ronnie for such amazing dedication in bringing church services to the cottages and Pat. This was so important to her. A special thanks to friend & caregiver Deborah Furgala. Grateful thanks to J. Richard Trellue for his counsel and guidance.

General will begin Tuesday, November 8th, 2022, from 10 am to 8 pm, and Wednesday morning November 9th, 2022, 8 am to noon.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday afternoon, November 9, 2022 at 2 pm, at Hillside Cemetery in Sulphur Springs, Arkansas with Brother James Squires officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.

Mrs. Julia Ann (Lewis) Watson, age 77, born July 7, 1945, to Mark Lewis and Rhoda Alene Sullivan, passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at home, surrounded by love.

She was married to the late Clyde Watson and they had 6 children. Julia was a devoted Christian woman who loved God, her family and singing songs. She also had a great love for her grandchildren. She loved going to church and going to ball games, concerts and all family outing where she would get to spend her time with her grandchildren. She loved sitting outside, working crossword puzzles, talking to her animals, going to singings and going to revivals and Bible School. Julia was a member of the Buffalo Presbyterian Church in Watson, Oklahoma, but loved attending various churches. Just like her mother, she had a love for sewing quilts by hand and loved singing Choctaw hymns. Julia was a very loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, great-aunt, and friend and will be missed tremendously.

Julia is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clyde Watson; her son, Johnny Watson; her grandson David Watson; her oldest sister, Dora Barrett. Julia is survived by her sons; Julian Watson of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Michael Watson of Harrison, Arkansas, and Brian Watson and wife Claudine of De Queen, Arkansas; her daughters, Regina Yates and husband Nathan of Watson, Oklahoma, and Teresa Watson of Watson, Oklahoma; 19 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; special friends; 2 brothers, Travis Sullivan of Smithville, Oklahoma, Charles Lewis of Shawnee, Oklahoma; sister, LaDonna Johnson of Smithville, Oklahoma; and a very special sister, Martha Watson of Watson, Oklahoma.

Services for Mrs. Watson will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, November 7, 2022, at Smithville Assembly of God Church, in Smithville, Oklahoma. Interment will follow at the Buffalo Cemetery in Watson, Oklahoma. Brother Mark Patrick will be officiating under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home. Visitation will be held at Beasley-Wood Chapel in Mena, Arkansas on Sunday, November 6, 2022, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Pallbearers are Steven Watson, Markus Hill, Lucas Henry, Miguel Hernandez, Jody Watson, and Marvin Jefferson.

Joy Felicia Lynch, age 73, of Mena, passed away on Monday, September 26, 2022 at home surrounded by family. She was born on Saturday, August 27, 1949 to Laurence Henry Garnsey and Emma Norma Zampatti Garnsey in South San Francisco, California.

Joy was a loving person and was loved by all who knew her. Her family was the most important piece of her life. Joy especially loved the holidays and having everyone gathered together. She was the bond that kept the family united. Joy was married to her loving husband Mervyn for 48 years before he went on to be with the Lord. She enjoyed doing arts and crafts in her free time. Joy was very artistic and creative. She painted murals and woodwork as well as ceramics. Joy was proud of her artwork and loved to display it throughout her house. She loved to listen to music but particularly anything by Reba McEntire or Barbara Streisand. Joy was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Laurence and Emma Garnsey; her loving husband Mervyn Lynch; two brothers and one sister. Joy is survived by one son and daughter in law, James and Kathy Lynch of Mena; one sister, Melody Morse of California; three grandsons, Stevan, Rodney and Jarrod; five great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mr. Andrew T. Davis, known as Uncle Runt to many nieces and nephews, age 91, passed away Monday, November 1, 2022, in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was born March 31, 1931, in Gillham, Arkansas, to the late A.T. Davis and Florence Branson Davis.
Andrew was an appliance repairman by profession, owning his own business. He enjoyed riding his side-by-side, he was an avid sports fan, gardening, and he loved his dogs. He also enjoyed eating dinner at Nora’s house, spending holidays with family whom he loved.

Mr. Davis is preceded in death by his parents, A.T. Davis and Florence Branson Davis; brothers, J.B. Davis, Ernie Davis; sisters, Alene Ellis, and Pauline Leard. He is survived by his sisters; Imogene Bertsch and Nora Graves; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends, too numerous to mention.

Graveside services for Mr. Davis will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 4, 2022, at the Mineral Cemetery, in Grannis, Arkansas. Brother Bruce Arrant and nephew, Andrew Richmond will be officiating, under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home.

Clinton Michael Rhodes, age 55, passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2022 at his home in Mena, Arkansas. He was born on Sunday, November 20, 1966 to Joseph Clinton Rhodes and Carolyn Gibbons in Mena, Arkansas.

Michael was a homebody who enjoyed the simple life. He was raised in a Christian home and knew Jesus. Michael went to school in Vandervoort and spent a lot of time in his childhood with his cousin, Doug Rhodes. He had a special love for music, often listening to soft rock on his headphones in deep appreciation for hours. Michael was very close with his father, and took care of him up until he passed away. He was very loyal to his family, and was respectful to anyone he met. Michael was a loving son, cousin and friend and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents. Michael is survived by his step mother, Brenda White of De Queen; his cousins, Wanda Foley of Mena, Doug Rhodes of Little Rock, and Gina Ayars of Little Rock; and a host of other family and friends. No services are planned at this time.
